The park is beautiful lots of places to take nice photographs. The only reason I give it a one star was because of the park attendant he was extremely rude and i would say extremely is an understatement. I had some balloons to use for pictures and as I was walking in the park, he rudely yelled at me “no balloons inside the park”!! I answered calmly “ok” and as I was walking out to take the balloons back to my car, I asked him if I could take just one picture at the entrance with one balloon not even inside the park. Once again he yelled saying “I TOLD YOU NO, STOP ASKING” Yelling at me in front of my 3 year old daughter. I would of not cared If he politely responded but he was extremely rude. I told him there was no need to be rude and he rudely kept fighting with me. I put the balloons back in my car and went about my day! But As we were leaving and the park was closing we were walking out towards the exit of the park and he passed by us and yelled “GET OUT”. Not sure if he was having a bad day or what but he for sure soured the mood and my daughter and my mother were really taken back by the situation. No matter how beautiful the park is I will never go back! We drove 45 min just for my 3 year old and my mother to have a...
Read moreI stumbled on Mercer Botanic Gardens recently, either on Google Maps or the news. I don't remember which.
But we visited today, and I'm so glad we did.
This stunning park is located in Aldine. We went to the garden side, which is on the east side of Aldine-Westfield. On the west side, they have longer trails, but we didn't visit that side today.
It's springtime, so the flowers, bees and butterflies were blooming, buzzing and bobbing. The bees (which I'm so glad to see) aren't interested in you; they just flit around.
The gardens themselves were varied. There were all kinds of flowers, but vegetables, trees and even a mini swamp (I love swamps) by the lake are all ready to take you on a botanical journey.
While there's not as much shade as I'd like, it's not about me: It's what the plants need. So, if you visit while it's hot outside, wear sunscreen.
For people who need help with mobility, they do have two push-wheelchairs available. I advise calling ahead to secure one if you need it. We also saw a lot of folks with strollers who had an easy time getting around.
This is a place of botanic magic nestled within city limits that will delight folks for decades to come. Don't miss a...
Read moreAbsolutely worst security. I had an elopement planned here and the times did change from 5-7 however I got there at 4:15 so all was well and good. That is however until my officiant was speaking to my husband and I and reading the vows when the security guard kept honking and blaring on the microphone very loudly trying to kick us out. We could hardly hear each others vows over the rude noise. Also as we were walking back to the parking lot, any chance he got to blare his microphone and honk, he did. Wherever his little golf cart he was in could go to follow us, he went. Once we reached the parking lot at 4:58 my officiant was trying to sign the marriage license and the security guy kept on being extremely rude on his microphone talking all kinds of nonsense at us and mind you, the hours in the parking lot were open later than the gardens. It's as if this guy didn't have a life and wanted to destroy anyone's happiness he could. Needless to say, he single handingly ruined what was suppose to be a beautiful once in a lifetime day and it wasn't even 5pm...
