I grew up and have lived my entire life down the street from the Palo Duro Canyon State Park. I've played in the park since I was a little girl, and I had never taken the Jeep Tour until yesterday. I was truly missing out! The jeep tour takes place on private property just North of the public park (all the same canyon) and is incredible. The view alone is breathtaking, but this side of the canyon doesn't see tourists all day, and it's teaming with nature and wildlife. We saw critters that I had never seen in the canyon before, and its still green and wild. It's perfect if you're wanting to see what the Palo Duro Canyon looks like at it's finest. Then you get to add in you're tour guide! He's kind, outgoing, and is incredibly knowledgeable of the history of not only the Palo Duro Canyon, but of the Texas Panhandle. He's my definition of a God fearing, hard working, Texas cowboy, and can give you a real experience of Texas hospitality. Things I recommend you bring: Sunscreen, bug spray, and a hat. You're very exposed to the sun, which may be harder than you'd think if you're not used to the Texas heat. No hiking involved, I was wearing a dress and flip flops. You do get out of the jeep, so if you're worried about your feet, wear some tennis shoes.

We did the “The Spirit of Palo Duro” 3 hour tour. Our adventure started with a quick jaunt half way down into the canyon with the most breathtaking scenery and back up again. Topside, we went in search of cows - mommas and their calves. Getting to hand feed them was a very special and unexpected treat. Now for the canyon. Our driver Sterling was amazingly skilled as he led our very controlled descent into the canyon and back out again. Our journey was pure heart-pounding adrenaline adventure! Descending down the canyon, we saw the most amazing vistas, HooDoos, and rock formations. Sterling told wonderful stories of the history and inhabitants, from long ago. At times we “mudded,” slid together (and got real cozy,) screamed, giggled, gasped, laughed, went airborne and had the most beautiful thrill ride of a lifetime.

Experience the hidden sides of the grand canyon of Texas - Amazing Palo Duro. Spent a three day weekend here and loved every aspect of it. The two hour jeep ride (recommended) was the highlight of the trip. Case was our tour guide and did an outstanding job. He is extremely well informed on the history, animals, and plant life of this place. Plus he is a great driver. A thrilling ride to the bottom of the canyon and back. You’ll see hidden treasures of the canyon with an up front, personal, hands-on view of everything that makes this place special. Don’t miss this chance to see the other parts of this canyon that are not part of the State Park. Having visited ALL of the major National Parks in the US, this place will provide as much amazement as any of them.

This is an excellent experience. It's on a private ranch next to (and maybe even better than) the state park in the Palo Duro Canyon... which is great because it's not full of people all the time. It's pristine. Rocks are where they were put a million years ago. There are great features on the tour. It's a true 4-wheeling experience, meaning, the off-road vehicle (hummer) is necessary to do the route which includes steep descents and climbs, water, ruts, bumps (even a ranch roller coaster moment if you choose). All of which will lead to the certainty of some white knuckles. You are likely to NEVER forget your tour guide, Case. He's smart (in more ways than one), well spoken, all knowing, funny, cares deeply. Perhaps you too will consider him as a professional version of a Disney Jungle Cruise tour guide. And I'm happy to say he gives the confidence you're in really good hands on this treacherous journey. Driving note: It's further than you think from the highway... just keep going (I turned...
