Every trip I make to the Manistique area includes a trip to Palms Book State Park. I started stopping here back in the late seventies, when it was known only as Kitch-iti-kipi. There was just a dirt two track driveway and tiny gravel parking lot back then. It now sports paved entrance, paved parking lots that are big enough for RVs and a souvenir and concessions building. They have also added rest rooms and charcoal grills for picnicing. The Big Spring itself is very magnificent and a memorable sight to see. It just amazes, how it flows so much water, for so many years, constantly year round. Certain times of year, you can see huge lake trout enjoying the cool water temps and oxygen rich water. Since the late seventies and probably even much earlier, there has been a self guided raft, to pull yourself out into the spring, with a center viewing portal. The spring is crystal clear and you can view the water bubbling out of the sand bottom, many feet down. A visit here should be on everyone's bucket list. Highly...

One of the most gorgeous place in the UP! We love finding natural springs on our roadtrips and I’m so glad I came across this gem. Park pass is needed to enter the park. We decided to get the year pass for out of state, so then we can visit other parks, and if we decided to come back. When we first visited, the line for the raft was so long and there was so many people (as it should be bc this place is so amazing)! We left and came another day towards the last hour of day light. There was about one or two other couple who were locals, so we got the raft by ourselves. It was literally such an amazing opportunity to view the huge trout, admire the landscape, and admire the springs. The water does stay 45 F (7 C) year round & is about 45-50 ft (13.7 - 15 m) deep. We would definitely come here again to view the trout & the area! There is a gift...

Awesome place. Really worth going out there if you plan for munissing trip. A natural spring lake in which transparent blue green water and beautiful scenic view add the beauty on it. Such clear water that fishes can be seen from top. Flow from the spring comes out continuously and bottom is mineralized with limestone. There is a raft that take you at the center of the lake to see the bottom or inside of the lake from viewing window. The lake also has many fallen tree trunks which seems to be mineralized and adds beauty in the clear transparent water. Overall the scene is awesome and eye catching. This place is good for picnic as they have set good rest rooms and parking...

This is an awesome place to visit! The springs are a short walk from parking. It's very lovely just walking up to it. You can get on a platform that moves via pulley, but someone has to turn the wheel. Everyone was really nice about taking turns. The platform has an open center to view the wonders of the springs, and it was cool to see the big fish swimming around in the crystal clear water, and to see the springs bubbling in the sand. The gift shop has a lot of neat things in there, and ice cream too! And don't forget your souvenir penny if you collect them-the gift shop even has a "penny passport" you can purchase to keep your pennies in one place! (I definitely bought one haha).

There is a lot to do in this area if you love the outdoors. The drive through this area is beautiful fields and coastline. There are many parks and campgrounds. Fayette is a beautiful abandon iron smelting town that has a great history and open park with with the old buildings still intact and you can freely walk through. Visiting the peninsulas you can see some great views that you don’t normal get to see if Lake Michigan. The campgrounds have public bathrooms and showers and the camp sites have electricity. Many trails and kitch-iti-kipi is a good spot to see the natural spring with beautiful turquoise colored water. Lots of trout in this spring.
