When I first arrived at Alfred University as part of the first group of Saudi Arabian students, I was warmly welcomed. I even requested to be the Saudi president of the organization through the Saudi Arabian culture mission. I organized the biggest event in Alfred village, which was the Saudi national day in 2019. Everyone who worked at the university was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. However, in 2021, myself and nearly 200 other Saudi students became increasingly frustrated with the immigration agents, registration office, and the slow response to our problems that we had to solve with the university. To be honest, it feels like the staff who once helped and welcomed us have changed, and I no longer feel like a part of the AU family.

Cool little town and beautiful campus. Check out the “castle” on campus. Museum of Ceramic Arts is small but very interesting. Well worth a visit.

I went to AU for 3yrs, one of the years I studied abroad as an exchange student for a semester and I didn't even get to go to one of my top choice schools. Instead I settled for a European university close the European city that I want to study in. Luckily I worked hard, wrote essays to get an international Gilman scholarship to fund my studies abroad. I was so disappointed after arriving at the placement European university bc it was somewhat close to Alfred NY suburbs but in a large European city. Studying in Alfred did not prep me to thrive studying in Europe, the courses were very difficult, professors spoke English was quick with accents. Even study abroad prep courses prior to my abroad semester wasn't all that helpful. I ended up not completing my semester abroad due to other reasons. AU international director only showed sympathy towards my not-so-good abroad experiences, that's about it. I expected more from AU after paying over $40k tuition per semester.

On a bright side, I met my bestest friends for life at AU. AU have an excellent organizations and programs for student engagement and community. International organization ISSO which I was on the eboard for a year was the best org that I’ve joined and connected with friends all over the world. Now in my late 20s, as I travel I’m able to reconnect with international friends that I met in Alfred briefly. My global connections are wide.

If you’re looking for a liberal arts school and somewhere in the rural where you’re not distracted, this is your school. If you’re looking to study fine arts, glass engineering, this university is top notch for these majors. If you’re looking to get into business schools, go somewhere else bc I transferred to a SUNY close to home. AU’s drop rates significantly high after the first semester and first year, a majority of my class (2016) transferred to other public schools.

Yet I’m still paying over $30k in loans and I didn’t even graduate from this school. My classmates who graduated undergrad had hard times finding a job after undergrad. Most of them went to grad schools in order to find higher...

Honestly speaking, the university has a nice scenery and many resources but the people here are just!!! The food also is mid, not good, not bad, I have gotten sick from the food more times then id like to admit. For the amount of money they charge and the fact that they keep increasing each semester payment by about $1000, you would think new things or better quality would be introduced.

They lure you in with a seemingly nice scholarship but then the semester payments make you have a mini heart attack. Even with loans and financial aid, they still have me paying about $4k for the semester payment. Absolutely ridiculous and not worth the money.

The financial aid office lacks accountability sometimes aswell, if something needs to be updated/done or if something was updated, they won’t even let you know, you have to find out for yourself and sometimes have to dig deep with them.

The counselors for therapy, come on, can we do better?

Again, not worth the money. If you come to this school, I advise you to join off of HEOP or know that you will be able to afford thousand dollar semester payments (2k - 5k+).

Alfred University, please do better. Your financial aid office and their process/effort.

School...
