While the grounds are absolutely beautiful, the service is awful. We reserved an area of the Arboretum grounds for our wedding and nothing we requested was provided.
Firstly, we reserved access to the education center and for the doors to be unlocked. However that was not the case as all the doors were completely locked for our ceremony. When we wrote to the Arboretum after the fact they stated a staff person did unlock the doors for our reserved hours, however when the bridal party tried every door to the education center to find an unlocked door, none of which were open.
Secondly, there was absolutely no staff members on-site that day. Looking into the education center from the window, it was very visable that nothing was set up or prepared for our event. On the day of, running into issues, it is very difficult to call a number for assistance moments before your wedding ceremony is to begin- a scheduled timed event. One which you would've hoped the location would've been prepared for.
Thirdly, we reserved a section of the arboretum ground. While there we no staff there to enforce this, people were in our reserved area, blocking me from walking down the aisle, and stealing our flower arrangements.
Our two requests with obtaining a permit were unsatisfactory. It is upsetting that we tried to do the right thing by spending the money and time to acquire a permit when we feel nothing we requested was arranged. Meanwhile, it was very evident that other park goers were getting professional photos taken, which I'm sure they did not have permits for. But who is to stop them when there are no staff members present.
My advice, don't even bother paying money if you want to do an...
Read moreI do love this place. Every time I come to the Montgomery area I stop here. There's always new flowers to see, and the peaceful trails are always nice. Nice. They're always seems to be plenty of parking. There's no staff on duty though, so keep that in mind. Plus it's free, which is a great bonus.
They do wonderful things for the seasons. For instance, during autumn they put pumpkins and corn stalk all around the welcome center. Even in October. There are wonderful flowers in bloom. It's just a great place to come and relax.
One thing I noticed on my most recent visit is how many flowers and plans they have just for pollinators. I seen more bees yesterday in one area than I've seen in years. And the variety of different types of pollinators was remarkable. Including one that was huge, probably the size of my thumb. A little unnerving if I'm honest lol.
Oh and by the way, be sure to check out the memorial to 9/11 and the twin towers. It's a quite large stone ball, maybe granite or marble. But it sits in water and actually moves by the force of water which is fascinating. All of the names of the people lost in Newburgh during 9/11 are etched around the base of the...
Read moreFree well manicured park like botanical gardens. At the entrance, when you approach the gate wait, and it will automatically open for you. We came on a Saturday around 3pm and it wasn't super full but it definitely is not as big as I would have liked, but it is pretty.
We found a spot and spread out a picnic blanket and no one bothered us. But wish it was bigger for a bit more privacy since there is only one main road and everyone walking along it would gawk at us as we tried to relax and picnic.
They close at 7pm, and I saw signs all throughout that said "no pets" which is a shame. Would be a nice place to go for a stroll with a well behaved dog. Overall I probably wouldn't be back unless it was to see the tulips/cherry blossoms...
