Prospect Mountain is one of the most popular mountains around the Lake George area. At the summit on a clear day you can see many many miles. You will be able to spot the Adirondack Mountains (High Peaks), most of Lake George, the Green Mountains, the White Mountains, the city of Glens Falls, and the village of Lake George. There are different ways of getting to the summit. You can pay a fee and drive up to the top. This way offers great views from parking areas on the way up. Once you reach the top there is a large parking lot and you can either walk to the summit or take the shuttle bus. This if a fun way to get to the top that has the added bonus of extra views of Lake George. The road is open from Memorial Day to Veteran's Day. You can also hike up the mountain. The most popular way to hike is take the trail from Smith Street in the village of Lake George. It is a 1.5 mile hike to the top. However, the hike is moderate to difficult as the trail is somewhat steep and goes straight up the mountain. If you plan to hike the trail come prepared. The trail is also very popular and you will see many other people on it. On holidays and weekends the hiking parking lot can fill up quickly. At the summit there are picnic areas. You will also be able to ser the remnants of an old cable incline railway. This railway used to bring guests to a hotel located on the top of the mountain. Overall, a great thing to do in the Lake George area. Be sure to choose the best way up...

The views are brilliant. I gave this visit a low star rating not because of the views. It was because in order to experience the mountain, it came with a entry fee. Im sure the view was as beautiful before they charged a fee. Before there was a Pavillion and a few picnic tables. Now I must add we did not have to pay which is due to age. However, I thought about it and I saw many beautiful natural views without the cost for entry. We went to the summit by way of Harley Davidson Motorcycles which is always better than a car. When we stopped to look at the vistas offering, we immediately knew it would be a short stay. Reason is black fly season. They were a swarming, and eye and ear diving nuisance. It was very hard to enjoy the scenic views. Maybe part of my lower star rating is because of the suffering from the bites I am currently experiencing as I write this. So if You decide to go up this mountain, do it with a bug spray. If not Your only paying a fee for a short stay and a couple days of suffering from itching caused by insect bites. Oh I almost forgot, this visit should be done with a closed mouth. Don't talk or You may end up swallowing a few black flies as did a few ppl did in...
