Ellison Park in Rochester, New York, offers an urban escape that feels worlds away from city life. Known for its abundant wildlife, this 447-acre park teems with creatures that delight nature enthusiasts. On any given day, you might spot deer grazing, hear woodpeckers tapping away in the trees, or see turtles sunbathing along the shores of the numerous ponds and creeks. Birdwatchers, in particular, will find Ellison Park a paradise with its rich avian diversity.

The park's peaceful trails are a major highlight, offering a serene environment for hiking, jogging, or a leisurely walk. Meandering through wooded areas, open fields, and along Irondequoit Creek, these trails provide a tranquil backdrop for outdoor activities. The gentle rustling of leaves and the soft babbling of the creek create a soothing symphony that calms the mind and invigorates the soul.

For those seeking a bit of friendly competition, Ellison Park features a top-notch frisbee golf course. Its varied terrain and challenging holes make it a favorite among locals. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, the course is designed to offer a fun and engaging experience for all skill levels.

Families will appreciate the well-maintained playgrounds scattered throughout the park. These play areas are equipped with modern, safe equipment that will keep children entertained for hours. Shaded picnic tables nearby make it easy for families to enjoy a relaxing lunch while the kids play. Elilison Park truly has something for everyone. Its abundant wildlife, peaceful trails, engaging frisbee golf course, and family-friendly playgrounds make it a cherished oasis in Rochester. Whether you're there to unwind, explore, or play, Ellison Park never...

Herds of deer..beaver..mink. Fox. Hawks. Song birds. Shelters bbq areas. Trails. Doggie Park no leash area. Streams wildlife and nature. Cranes. Blue Herrings . Massive wing spans. Snakes that grow huge and rabbits and my dog Jake and myself saw monster turtles too big to lift crossing from the wetlands to the creek... Historic land where the British and French and America frontiersmen as well as famous politicians played out the evolution of our great country !!! The lost city of Tyron holds many secrets to this day as trade and commerce was brisk and the St. Lawrence seaway opened new opportunities with the Locks and shipping lanes growing. The great sea Salon travel by the St. L seaway to lake Ontario and up the Creek in the park systems to spawn and be caught by amazing fishing as the streams are also.stocked. so paddle up the creek or bike it too w many.trails and boyscout...

Great park but not what it used to be. Before I was a child one section of this park was Rochester's unofficial dog park. As anyone older than 30 about " doggy beach".

Well a few jerks and a very greedy county ended a decades long tradition. The sheriff offices were directed to go deep into the park and give tickets to what was usually the ONLY person in the park for having their dog off a leash...in the middle of a park...with no one around.

Yes that is our county tax money at work, evidently there is no longer any crime in Rochester.

After years of battling the Monroe County Parks Dept we do finally have some dog parks with by far the best one being here at Ellison it is well worth the $25 per year fee.

The trails in the rest of the park are still wonderful but dog walkers need to keep their eyes open for the Sheriff dept, after all there is no other crime in...

The most beautiful park I've been to yet! I try to come here every morning on my days off. The woods are magical and the paths are well kept. The wildlife is abundant and most of the time it is quiet and without a crowd. You'll never know what you'll come across as the plants and scenery change from day to day giving an ever changing and beautiful experience ✨

What's not to love? Got to revisit Ellison after moving away a few years ago. I remember sledding down the hill as a kid and now, after working in the natural resources field in Denver, I can really appreciate the lush vegetation, meandering streams, and abundant avian life that call the park home (despite all the dogs-wow!).
