The Hudson River Skywalk is a beautiful walkway that connects the historic houses of artists Thomas Cole and Frederic Church. The best part of the walkway goes over the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. The views of the Hudson River below bridge are breathtaking. Walking towards Cole's house you can see some great views of the Catskill Mountains. If you walk towards Frederic Church's Olana you can see some nice views of this terrific estate. The walkway lane is fairly wide and is protected by a wall from traffic. There are parking areas on either side of the bridge that are easily accessed. You do not need pay the toll to go over the bridge, if you simply want to use the walkway. The trail is three miles one way or six miles out and back. If you have a fear of heights, walking over the bridge can be challenging. Traffic near the walkway over the bridge can be a bit loud, but it is not bad. If you have time, plan to go to either Church's House (Olana) or Thomas Cole's House. If you're not interested in the houses the walk itself is still very nice!

The view from this bridge has always been spectacular and now that the walkway was put in a few years ago, it makes it easier to see the views. It also connects Thomas Cole House with Olana. There's also a wonderful winery (Whitecliff) on the Columbia side of the bridge. Nice place to take a walk /hike. Cloudy days can...

A new walkway added to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. Spectacular views of the Hudson River and the Catskills in the distance. The Skywalk extends beyond the Bridge itself to connect the Thomas Cole National Historic Site and Oleana State Historic Site (the home of Frederick Church). Parking available...
