Do not rent a boat here. I attempted to rent a boat Sunday to Saturday. When I first called to set up the rental, it was agreed that I would pick it up on Sunday before 10am. Two days before I was supposed to come and pick up the rental (Friday), a woman from the Marina called and said that I wouldn't be able to pick it up on Sunday because they would be closed. The purpose of her call was to make other pick up arrangements. She said if I came in Saturday before 12 and paid the rest of the bill and signed another form, they could leave the keys in it for me on Sunday. I couldn't do that because I am from out of state and would not be arriving until Saturday late at night. We agreed on Monday. Then, on Saturday, a different woman from the Marina called and said they were also closed on Monday. But she would come in and give me the boat, we decided on a time. Monday came and there was a storm, so we couldn't be out on the water so we decided I would pick it up on Tuesday. I arrived on Tuesday, and they said I needed to pay the entire rental week of Sunday to Saturday, even though I couldn't get it on Sunday due to their hours. I explained this to the 3 women at the desk (I believe I had spoke to each of them on the phone at some point), and they said that I could've picked it up anytime on Sunday and that there was someone there all day on Sunday. This is the exact opposite of what I was told on the phone. We had to go back and forth quite a bit and it was very unpleasant until they agreed to not charge me for Sunday, they still charged me the tax for Sunday though. Then, when I finally got the boat, the gas tank was broken so it just read 1/2 all the time and we needed to check it with a manual dip that I purchased out of pocket. Also, my dad pointed out some scratches on the skeg when we did a walk through of the boat to the woman who was showing it to us. When returning the boat, a different woman than the one who showed it to us saw the scratches and said they may need repair and we may need to pay for them. We explained that they were there before and pointed out when we picked it up. She had to go check with others and then came back out and said they wouldn't charge us. It was just a hassle and a poor experience, when renting a boat for so much money, it felt like they were just trying to get more out of us anywhere they could. It was also very disorganized and not well communicated, they should keep notes of communications with clients, like when a renter was contacted and what was discussed. We will be renting a boat every year for the foreseeable future, and we stay on an island very close to Clayton, but we certainly will not be renting from Clayton Marina ever again. We will find another...
Read moreWe have been using Clayton Marina for years now for storing our pontoon and having it serviced. They have always had great customer service. Recently, my 1990 Rinker Captiva broke down, and Eric the service manager told me what it would involve to fix it. Eric is one of the guys you meet and you can just trust right from the start. There are other marinas I have dealt with in the 1000 islands region. He is a shake your hand look you in the eye kind of guy. Clayton Marina had a Zv18 Nitro for sale that someone traded in. Mind you, they do not necessarily sell Nitro boats or mercury engines. They gave me a solid deal, the sold me the boat way under market value based on what I saw around the internet. Also, even after I paid for the boat, they fixed livewell pumps for me, put in a new bilge pump, fixed some wiring, and they even ordered a new part for the trailer that was straight from Nitro. They could have said, "too bad, you already bought the boat" The took great care of me. I know this may sound like they paid me for this review, but they didn't. Great salesmen, great service, great business. I will deal with them for next 20 years. My brother is also buying to new Seadoos from...
Read moreI rented a 19’ triumph yesterday and my family had a blast, especially my 6 and half year old daughter. I let her hold the helm whenever it was safe. I think it’ll be one of her most memorable moments.
I had wanted a 17’ which they ran out. But it turned out 19’ dual console was just the right size for a family of 6. The boat was nice, the throttle precise and easy to control. I had rented a smaller vessel over 10 years ago and this one was definitely much better. Staff was professional and helpful. The only issue was the gas gauge didn’t move at all for 6 hours of high speed, having me concerned it wasn’t working and we might be running out. Then it moved down a notch just 5 minutes before we returned. From how much gas I was charged afterwards it must have a 100 gallon tank so we weren’t actually in any danger.
We went to Boldt castle for a tour and Alexandria bay for lunch. Both places were fairly easy to dock, and free, probably because it was a Monday and fewer tourists.
Thanks again for a fun day. I’ll definitely rent from them again when we come by. After all it’s such a beautiful lake, and so big that I estimate we covered less that 5% of what...
