Trailhead parking is limited and potholed. Trailhead itself is impassable due to poison ivy overwhelming the path. If you get to past the first 300 feet of poison ivy, you'll find mainly rolling pastures with a wooded swamp section abutting the tracks. Do not keep small dogs off-leash as there are coyotes and raptors frequenting the fields. Access to Schunnemunk Mountain itself, is via illegally crossing the Metro North track line. Read moreFirst time at this trail. Parking lot was easy enough to find. GPS takes you right to it. Finding the actual trailhead was a different story. After some time I found the entrance. Trail is overgrown and unmaintained (long pants!!). The trail is marked well enough with color metal disk's. Trail I took led me to the Metro north track's!! Don't cross the tracks, active train's passing. Area around tracks not fenced. Found out later this side of the park is being close for that very reason. Hope to try the other side soon. I don't...

Just some advice after speaking with a gentleman who lives in the area (he can come across as rude at first, but heck I'd be the same way if I lived there): Keep your dogs leashed, especially at the trailhead. Pack out what you pack in. Only park in spaces at parking area (if you cant find parking get there earlier next time). Be mindful of neighbors.
