Very beautiful. Not a very hard hike at all. A small up hill but I’m talking small. About a mile to the cemetery which is the end point. Amazing surprise to see that type of cemetery. When we were told to take that hike we thought a cemetery near a main road like ones you see around not one from the 1800s! Very cool to see the history and picture life back then. Maybe that area was filled with cottages and lived out there in the woods. Crazy to think and imagine. Beautiful to see has little log seating a long the way. And look out for the trees that were taken down by beavers too! If you are around the hawks Nest area take a minute and if the hiking trail isn’t for you at least hi and see the pictures that they have posted up of how it used to look wayyyy back in the day! It’s crazy to think that they had a horse and carriage...
Read moreThis is a beautiful river trail which is a little under 2 miles out and back. It follows along the Mongaup River, very well maintained trail, with lush vegetation as you go further in. The trail isn't marked but the path is easy to follow, it ends at a small cemetery (Upper Mongaup Cemetery). Some of the headstones date back into the late 1800s. Their is another trail on top of the ridge line above the cemetery but not sure how far or where that one goes too. The trail is easy to navigate, relatively flat with a few rolling sections. Plenty of chipmunks a long the way. Best part, especially for the kids, their is a section where the Mongaup river splits off into a stream where the kids can go into the water and get their feet wet (water shoes would be recommended). This is a gem of a trail...
Read moreThis trails runs along the Mongaup River in its final stretch before it empties into the Delaware River. The hike is easy and scenic, but quite short passing a small cemetery along the way. It's an out-and-back trail offering no access to other paths. The river here is a favorite for whitewater kayaking when the power company opens the dam upstream, though I've not done that. Across Route 97 one can see remnants of the D&H Canal that once ran from northern Pennsylvania to Kingston and the...
