The park has multiple trails running through, stretching for miles, and with a good forest cover. The trails are well-maintained, with maps, and wooden benches available at intersections. There is a paved trail of around a mile and a half, which is fully accessible by a stroller/wheelchair. The park also has an observatory tower, offering magnificent views of the surrounding areas, and a butterfly park. Perfectly safe even on a weekend as the trails are wide enough for maintaining social distancing. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash. Also, be wary of the chipmunks scurrying around. Update - The observatory tower is now open, and can be accessed from any of the multiple trails, or one can drive right up to the dedicated parking spot for the tower, and reach it by a short flight of steps.

From the winding prairie trails to the west, to the evergreen grove to the east; Kettle Moraine State Forest Lapham Peak Unit is an absolute adventure! There is an abundance of bird wildlife with woodpeckers, cardinals, Cooper's and red-tailed hawks, a few turkey vultures, sandhill cranes, and many more! I couldn't locate any larger mammals such as coyote or whitetail deer, but there were tracks that I found. The trails in the evergreen grove are extremely wide, as they allow DNR vehicle traffic thru when needed. Ultimately, at 1,233 feet above sea level (a few hundred feet above immediate ground) is a surreal view atop the watchtower. All in all, I'm extremely excited to get back and take more photos when there is a greater presence of wildlife!

Updated 1/2025: Tonight was the annual Candlelight Hike. Grab a voucher ahead of time, online or at the park ranger's office, make sure you have either a State Park parking permit or a few $$ to pay for parking and enjoy a nice candlelight hike through the beautiful nature in the park. Dogs are welcomed on leashes (and with poop bags) and stay for a hot chocolate around a fire pit when you are finished. (Bring a few $ for the treat.) The hike is not difficult and is well-lit on a mostly paved path. I believe it was a bit over a mile in length. Tonight's starry sky was the icing on the cake. This hike is great for the whole family. The sensory beauty is unbeatable. We do this every January and look forward to next year already. Previous review: Beautiful nature and lots of activities to take advantage of. We recently did the candlelight hike and regularly hike the trails. Summer theater is a hoot and always is a good time. Get the yearly parking pass and enjoy it...

Wish I could give this 0 stars!!!! Me and my boyfriend were playing Pokémon go in the park tonight when the manager of the park, yes I repeat OWNER OF THE PARK approached us and starts immediately harrasing us calling us swoofers which is a term used for cheaters in the game. He starts sayin he’s going to report our user names for cheating and demanding to see our telephones to make sure we don’t have this app that is used to do the cheating “swofing”. We’ve nver even seen this guy before an he didn’t know if we were the ones he was looking for, and we weren’t. But he didn’t hesitate to be nothing but unprofessional and harsss us over a game.. I hope that if anyone ever does visit here that they don’t have to ever interact with this man who could make a simple visitor feel so harassed...
