Terrible experience at the 2018 Great Lakes Border Clash soccer tournament this weekend. Where do I even start? Game schedules were sent out extremely late (Tuesday of the week of the tournament), at which point we found out they didn't have enough U11 or U12 teams for a full field of teams. They merged the age groups without getting approval from teams, which is not what we signed up for. They also had to merge U14/U15 for same reason. Tournament just cared about their $$, and not about the playing experience for the kids. They never posted schedules, standings or game results to the tournament website - did they not want people to see how few teams they had? Fields were half empty, and for good reason... The 2017 results are still up! As games were mix of U11 and U12 teams, they should have been playing to U11 rules, which outlaw headers. Refs had no idea, and some were allowing them and others were not. This created unsafe playing conditions for the U11 teams, and unfair competition. There were no tournament organizers out ensuring refs were being consistent. We played our last game on Saturday with only two of three refs. No one was around to ensure games had full ref teams. Previous games ended and they could have grabbed a ref to stay for last game, but no one from the tournament was around to do anything... Quality of refereeing was terrible. Inconsistent at best, downright dangerous at worst. It was similarly bad last year, and we won't let there be a third try. There was no medical staff on-site to review injured players, provide ice if needed, etc. I'm surprised this is even legal! How are these folks insured?! Never been to a tournament that didn't provide medical assistance when needed.
While the kids had fun doing what they love, and the Dells is a good venue for a travel tournament, we will definitely NOT be coming back to Woodside, and I'll certainly be sharing this feedback with our club so other teams don't make the same mistake again. Woodside is not a venue to be trusted! Go play somewhere else that knows how to manage a fun, safe soccer tournament, and is interested in more than just taking your $$$ any...

Communications from the people at Woodside is HORRIBLE! My son's Club Team had planned this tournament for at least 3 - 4 months. We were to play this weekend 10/21-10/22 as a 13U team. They let us know 10/17 that the tournament was cancelled. (Two teams signed up) Initially, I was angry with the club team my son plays on for the lack of communication. Not at all their fault. Fault falls squarely on Woodside's! Their Tournament Director had no dialogue with my sons team until 4 days before the tournament. That was after SEVERAL unreturned phone calls to the Tournament Director. His options were to play at 14U (different field sizes) or just cancel. 4 DAYS BEFORE WE WERE TO PLAY!! Did the tournament director not know 1 month in advance that they were having problems getting enough teams to play a tournament? Of course he did. A simple phone call to our Club and we could have arranged to go to Milwaukee instead!
Do they not understand there are 12 committed families and 4 coaches that are relying on good communication from them? All of us kept the weekend open to play baseball in lieu of going on a mini vacation during a short break from school for our kids. Woodside - Get your act together! I for one will encourage our future teams to NEVER book a tournament at Woodside! (Club and Association - I don't trust you guys!) Based on other reviews communication is a common problem. I know this isn't the end of the world. This is 13U baseball. A simple phone call Mr/Ms Tournament Director is what you owe your customers. Just not four days before the tournament (3 before we leave). That is simply...
Read moreMultiple years in a row we have had issues here. I’m not sure if it’s a staffing issue or a management issues, but both years when we have been there for an event there have been strict rules about no carry-ins (not even water for non-players), and then they can’t handle the the crowds. Lines stretched more than half an hour for food and they pretty quickly ran out of most food items. I get wanting to make money off of concessions, but you need to be able to handle the crowds or change your policies, especially when you are charging admission too. On top of that, when we arrived the toilets were out of toilet paper. That happens, so I let the kids behind the desk know what was going on, they said that the person forgot to put new rolls in overnight and they would take care of it. When I went back an hour later, they had simply tossed a giant roll on the floor of the stall. Nothing like having your only toilet paper option be a roll that has sat in who knows what all day.
The actual fields were pretty well maintained. The grounds were pretty clean, but the concessions issues really hurt them. Had they been well staffed they could have made a killing, instead people started leaving for their cars and bringing in whatever food/drinks they...
