Listening to a podcast and learning about the wild and sordid past of this former military base that inspired the show Stranger Things makes the trip so much more interesting and enjoyable. Plenty of trails to hike, wildlife to see, and photo ops galore. You can't access the old military buildings, but you can walk right up to them and peep in some of the holes no doubt made by curious visitors. The lighthouse is currently being renovated, so the lovely view of it is littered with cranes and heavy equipment. No doubt it will look wonderful when it is finished! Look for the maps so you don't miss anything. The tower, barracks, bunkers and bluffs are all in different areas. Lots of picnic tables and plenty of spots to stop and rest. Careful for ticks in the...

Great place to visit, and if you want to picnic. There are certain places that you can drive and certain areas that you can't, you will need to hike. There are bathrooms located on the park property and are clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking around the area. Please don't trespass where signs are posted. Wear comfortable sneakers if you plan to hike a little. Please see posted signs, especially at the Bluff Overlook. At the map of the area, there are maps and information about the park that are available below the large map. Please stay at the posted speed limit, there are people who are walking, hiking, and jogging on...

And before that, during WWII, it was home of a heavily reinforced coastal artillery battery. While not accessible to visitors, the 600 feet long concrete battery and bunker are in plain sight although now covered with vegetation. Lots of history here. Definitely worth it making a pit stop here while also visiting the Montauk lighthouse and museum. Hold on to your parking pass for the lighthouse - it will be honored here so you won’t have to pay extra to...

😵‍💫 The real life Stranger Things base is in Montauk, New York! Here’s the real story of Camp Hero at the very end of Long Island the theories that surround it. This is a State Park open to the public. #longisland #montauk
