The hike at Pilot Knob is a lot of fun. It's not overly strenuous, but there are a few areas where you'll be scrambling over rocks over some more steep areas. Most of the hike takes place under a thick canopy of trees, so even on a hot day like we had it felt reasonably cool. At the end of the main hike you'll be deposited at a pavilion with lovely views over Lake George and the surrounding area.
We hiked this with 15 people; 7 children ranging from 3.5 to 9, and 8 adults ranging from 30 to 65. The kids really had very little trouble. My 3.5 year old had a smile on her face the entire time and walked up and back herself (I held her hand on the way back to help make sure she didn't fall). The adults had no trouble at all, although some were less comfortable with some of the more rocky places.
We decided to head to the waterfall from the pavilion but didn't end up making it because the kids did start to tire out, but even just the trek to the pavilion was great, a nice length, with a reasonable level of difficulty for families, with a nice...

Both are great resting places, good for a meal or tea-boil. Turn back from the gazebo for a 2-mile-minus, easy to moderately tough hike through Pine, Hemlock and Shagbark Hickory stands. Continue on to the waterfall for something closer to a 4-mile round-trip. Easy from the gazebo to the waterfall. Has become pretty popular of late, so best to get to the small parking area early in the morning to secure a spot, especially on weekends when nearby Lake George Village is busy...
Read moreOne of the best hikes at Lake George. This is moderate level. We went there when it snowed and didn't have spikes on the shoes. The road was very icy and slippery. It's almost 2 mile hike with moderate steep and slopes. The views are breath taking and totally worth the hike. There is a gazebo on top which is the viewing point and half way of the entire big hike. There are 2 trails..
Orange- Short one upto gazebo and back Blue- long one upto waterfall and back.
Definitely recommend this hike if you are hiker. If it's snowing please have spikes or chains on the shoes or else it...
