The nature at Letchworth is phenomenal and the waterfalls, breathtaking. The condition of the park was great and I honestly really enjoyed hiking around and feeling the mist from the falls on my face. I did not enjoy any reactions I had with the staff at the park. I felt like a burden which was not a great feeling. I would absolutely still give this place a 3 or 4 start rating considering all of that because I didn't come to the park to talk to people, I came for nature, and the nature was good. I am giving one star though because of an incident that happened at the park at the pool. I went to change after swimming and when I entered the locker room I noticed that there were baby birds on the floor. They had fallen out of their nest onto the floor and one looked very injured. I reported this to the staff at the pool and I was told that they weren't allowed to interact with the birds because their mother would smell the human on them and reject them. This is an "old wives tale" and has little to no scientific backing. Regardless the birds were dying and I'm not entirely sure that the best move either way is inaction. I contested their claim and they reacted semi angrily and told me that "birds die" with a shrug. This is true and I could see that being acceptable, to me at least, if this weren't a place that's main attraction is nature. I feel like to take money and make a profit off of something natural, but to not respect it was not cool. I know that most people won't really care about the birds and I get that, but I did and that's why I...
Read moreBeautiful State Park! We rented a room at the Glenn Iris Inn to host family reunion which did not disappoint. The food and service was good and the gardens and perfect view of the middle falls made the location exceptional. Hiking trails are well marked by blazes on the trails. The 7 mile gorge trail is most popular and for a reason. It follows the rim of the gorge and offers several overlooks and gorgeous views of the upper, middle and lower falls. This was our first time hiking with our infant and trying out new gear. We appreciated that there are several parking lots and pull offs making it easy to do several smaller sections...
Read moreDue to the railroad bridge construction and subsequent removal of the circa-1875 bridge just above the upper falls, the Portageville entrance has been closed for a few months as of this writing. An employee at the museum next to the Glen Iris Inn told us (on September 29, 2017) that it is currently estimated the park entrance and upper falls will reopen around December 2018. Fortunately Letchworth State Park has multiple entrances. Portageville entrance is the closest entrance to the upper and middle falls if you're visiting...
