We reserved a pavilion for a neighborhood reunion on July 6th. We were promised 2 grills and a trash can. We got neither. When we first saw the grill, we thought there was only one but then we saw it was a double grill, problem solved. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, one whole side of the grill was rotted right through, big hole. So essentially, one grill. Then we looked for the trash can, we were seriously warned in our confirmation letter that we would be fined if any trash was left. No can, we had to send someone home to get bags so we would not be penalized. Lastly, would it be possible to put some better signage up to direct guests to their pavilion ? Whether we were from out of town or local residents, we all found it very difficult to find our pavilion. So from a traveler who came all the way from Georgia to celebrate a reunion with old friends, NY. State Park fell short, way...
Read moreThis is a great park for people of all kinds of recreational tastes. We've mostly come to launch our canoe, either to paddle around Beaver Island itself or to head out across the Niagara River to Strawberry Island. But the really large park area has a golf course, a disc golf course, a beach (with volleyball court), a basketball court, fields, pavilions, a huge area for picnicers, a Marina for powered boats, a restaurant, and probably more that I haven't encountered.
As a State Park, you can get in for free with an Empire Pass, or there's a fee per car to enter. Note that there is also a bridge toll to get onto Grand Island from either end, so there's that extra cost to get to the park.
While we have gone to the beach here, it's a little more muddy and rocky than Woodlawn Beach, but due to the location on the Niagara River, it's hardly ever closed for swimming because of water quality issues, so there's...
Read moreBeautiful park. Playground was nice! Lots of parking. Lots of picnic tables, many of which were in the shade. The lifeguards were friendly enough, but the rules they had to enforce on the beach were a bit ridiculous. We came from out of town, visiting family, and brought some swim aides for our young kids. Weren't allowed to use arm floaties or foam bubbles. The kid next to us was in tears when they told him he couldn't use his goggles. No frisbees, no ball throwing. Seems a bit restrictive for a family friendly beach. Don't think...
