Got there at 7am Tuesday 9/27/23. Booked 18 holes. Starter told me to start on 1 because the mowers are mowing the back. Told the starter I should be making the turn about 8:10 and I would appreciate it if he wouldn’t start a large group on the back until I come around. I got to 10 about 8:05 only to see he put a foursome on the back. Every time he tells me to start the front the mowers are mowing the front not the back. So he is not in sync with the mowers. He said he couldn’t hold up the booking for 1 person. This didn’t make sense because there was only 8 cars in the parking lot and the front was wide open. People prefer to play the back because it is shorter and easier to play. At better run courses like Sheridan or Glen oak they will not start groups on the back because it infringes on those that are making the turn. There is no golf etiquette at Beaver Island. If you are going to hire a starter at least insure he or she understands this principle and can communicate with the mowing crew. I’ve played this course for 30 years. The starters use to take control of the process. There use to be rangers that helped control slow play and helped faster golfers to advance through the slower golfers. If a group can come on and start on the back at 8am why do you even have a starter for. You would be better off reversing the 9’s so that it would encourage people to want to start on the front tee again. It’s a shame because the course was not in bad shape for this time of the year. I realize it is not a country club or Beth Page Black. Starting groups on the back nine symbolizes that there are no rules or etiquette on the course. This is catering to golfers that are not concerned about pace of play or do not care that they are infringing on golfers that are making the turn. If you are not a good golfer and prefer to get drunk and not fix divots or not allow faster golfers to pass, BIG is the...
Read moreI like this speech, but, there's about eight feet of really bad rocks on your way into the water, honestly it hurt my feet so bad I thought I was going to cry! On the way out I had to go super super slow and try to place my feet in areas where there were too many rocks. otherwise, everybody was very appropriately socially distance. Except for these 10 peoplewho were all close together, no masks, and absolutely no social distancing. Seeing that kind of thing really annoys me. Also, when I was leavingthe smaller parking lot, there were some kind of low-life people having a picnic near by, and one woman dragged her Rottweiler by his collar with two hands, and then put him on a chain, and smacked him on the back really hard. I would have said somethingbut I was alone and they look like the type of people that would beat me up or something. I wish I would have taken a picture and then reported them to the Park Police. But, the sand is clean and the water was really refreshing, although you do end up with some shredded up seaweed...
