Nice laid back open air tasting area, boasting an awesome view of Seneca Lake. As others have mentioned our tasting was fortunately with the winemaker himself (Ben). Great younger guy with a definite passion for wine. Well schooled and industry related travel (California, New Zealand etc.) have served him well as his products are some of the nest in the area. His roots in the Seneca Lake area pulled him home to further hone his craft.
Osmote is looking to eventually expand the space with a tasting room,. but during the nice weather it is a perfect setting as it stands. The tasting was more expensive that many in the area at $20, but the quality and experience made it worth it for us. It also included a shortbread cookie that was delicious. There was nice selection of music playing in the background as well.
We enjoyed our stop and...
Read moreMy family and I visited this winery along with other wineries in the area. Not only was the wine better, the atmosphere was perfect. The spectacular views, the open air pavilion tasting area, the family atmosphere. It was something different in the best possible way. The owner's daughter played with our kids. His mother took them to pick apples and feed their pigs. Days later, they are still affectionately talking about "Nonna". We went back again to watch the owner's step father play with his band. I am just left with the nicest feeling. At some point, I asked when we can move in. This place is simply...

However, he also charged us for everything he poured without us asking for a single wine. He also brought us shortbread cookies, which we didn’t ask for, and charged us full price for that too! It’s not even in a building, it’s in a tent. We also didn’t see a price list until after he poured our first wine.
Charging people for wine you pour into their glass without even asking if they want it is not a good way to do business. We ended up paying almost $20 per person for the tasting! We didn’t know that there wasn’t a set tasting price because he just poured what he wanted without asking us what we wanted to try.
Buyer beware! This is not an honest nor...
