Been here less than 15 minutes and so far we've seen a green heron (1) and several white heron / egrets (about 15 or so).
Seems like a quiet / peaceful place. Great to come for a relaxing walk. (Not a good place for running or cycling.)
Nice place to spend an hour. Maybe 90 minutes. That's about it. It isn't huge.
It is nice. The trails are very peaceful. The marsh is teaming with life! Shorebirds. Clams and mussels. Killifish.

Read moreBEAUTIFUL. Hidden little gem in Oceanside with a crazy diverse habitat and natural wildlife. It's not terribly large but there are trails and loops you can make. There is a little nature center with a fish tank and models and nesting cameras. There is a pair of Ospreys that come every March/April. There are terrapin turtles, warblers, sparrows, snacks, hummingbirds, frogs and herons. A true marsh experience on the bay, remember a lot of the activity is seasonal and dependent on migration but even if you need some fresh air and a scenic walk, you'll catch a view and some wildlife. Its free, but they are closed...

The Study Area is particularly beautiful during the changing of the tides when the mud flats are exposed and bay is either filling or emptying its basin. The only downside is that the Study Area is not open Sundays and it's...
