I really like Herrema's. It's an old-fashioned, relaxing supermarket!! They have nice desserts - which my mother enjoys more than Wegmans (eclairs). They have a great lasagna in the deli. They sell rotisserie chicken - I think the same cost as Wegs, and tastes great. I find their prices are fine. People compare it to Wegmans, but I don't think Wegmans is inexpensive on any level - where you can but a ready-made Caesar salad for $11!!! Its just lettuce, a few croutons and dressing - for $11. And a turkey sandwich for $10-12 as well. That's expensive when you can make both for about $1.50. Herrema's has the varieties that Wegmans doesn't have. They have Cheesie Eddies Cheescake. They have a ton of frozen dinner selections - Banquet, Hungry Man, etc., whereas Wegs has a small selection comparatively. Its a nice alternative that you should explore. Update: July 2023. Well, they have been making nice improvements in the store!! Beautiful meat and fish selections, and I really like the prepared foods they're having. Their Chili is awesome! Meatloaf and sloppy joe ready to go - new salads - all excellent! And no, I don't work for Herrema's nor do I receive any money for posting. I'm just letting you know its a nice store to check out -- I've gotten very tired of the usual selections at the other stores. They've also been slowly adding all sorts of organic, vegan products. I see they now have their own cake decorating section ... it looks like a...
Read moreNormally a great local store but today very unhelpful. I usually cash my payroll checks every week or so no problem multiple employees and managers have cashed my checks fine now I go in aits a girl behind the cashier desk that I don't recognize and she tells me my check is over the limit that they accept. I tell her that I had previously been told as long as it is a pay roll check there isn't a limit. So she gets her manager again someone I e never interacted with and now he's saying I can't cash my checks there at all anymore, that previous employees must have been wrong. This is very inconvenient because I've been cashing checks here for years before at an old job and at least the last 6 months from my current employer. It's really a sham because I take care of my wheelchair bound mother currently and have no vehicle so it's hard to get out to a bank. He said he can't cash my check unless it's a check from me for groceries, because he can't trust my employer which has never been the case I think he just didn't want to deal with the hassle because every time I've cashed a check previously it goes through the computer system just fine. Very frustrating hope this...
Read moreSo normally we do Walmart grocery pickup since it's fast, easy and affordable but especially because it lets me limit impulse buys and meal plan.
Once a month we generally will go to Aldi's just for variety sake. Well, today I suggested to my wife that we try Herramas since it's a local business and it's always nice when you can take your business to one.
The store was void of any shoppers, I think we saw two other people, maybe three other people in the 45 minutes we were in there. We knew going in it was going to be more expensive and we didn't need a ton of things this week so that also contributed to trying them but we were absolutely astounded by the high prices. In fact I just priced everything that we bought out at Walmart and $75 that we spent today cost $40 at Walmart. That's almost double!
I can't speak much to quality yet but I did take apart the rotisserie chicken that we bought, as I do every week to the one we buy from Walmart, and I will say it was significantly smaller and it was way overcooked. I don't know how long it had been sitting there under the hot lamps since it was cooked but it was...
