Quaint little beach with the Adirondack trail behind it.
Prepare for detail.
First warning: pack light! You gotta walk a steep hill to get to the beach. Going down is okay, but after spending the day in the hot sun, carrying it all back up is not fun.
Overall this place is great but there are some things that I’ll mention for those who are traveling and want a place that’s worth going to for the time/money.
$9 car fee.. Gravel/Grass parking. There are bathrooms and a ‘cafe’.
The beach was lovely in recent years but during my recent visit, the beach is littered with small-large rocks making it very hard to run around or even lay down.
Also fair warning that the cafe has little-no selection: only a couple icecream choices and hardly any drinks or snacks. Everything (chocolate and candy) is melted or gooey from the heat/being left out.
The grill shuts down at 3:45-4:00. Highly suggest bringing food or you will leave here hangry after spending the day here and coming to find this closed..
The burgers and dogs are good though.
There is plenty of picnic spots, at least 10. A few of them have BBQ grills next to them. The picnic area is against the trees along the back of the beach.
Like I said this place is great for a simple beach day away from the mainstream places. Choose your timing wisely if you’re looking for a peaceful day. Families+kids do come here. And be mindful of the amenities, and...
Read more1st time to this lake - it was great!!! I was sceptical about some reviews by others here, but as I figured - they were not accurate. The water was clean and clear and there was no smell😷. On the sides of the beach is where the water moss accumulates. It's a lake and not the ocean 🌊 so there is no seaweed😃. There are 🌲 and vegetation surrounding the lake, so of course it's going to get into the water. The atmosphere was wonderful because there is no music allowed! YEAAAA!!! I was able to here the wonderful sounds of people speaking, laughing and just having fun!!! It was really great. Hopefully they will continue to keep it without the music. The boat rentals are suspended this year because of COVID-19. Fishing 🎣 is allowed without a license - another great benefit. I really loved this place. It's also adjacent to hiking trails - wow!!! I plan to go back a few more times before time runs out! 😃. The grills are taken up by the early risers that already know the layout. This place has it all, so you can really appreciate it by getting there...
Read moreWent tent camping here in August, front office opens at 3pm so plan accordingly. We went to our sites and set up and came back to the front office at 3pm to check in. Be aware, some sites require a hike up which can be tiring and also an inconvenience especially if you have a lot of baggage to transport ( I believe the sites were 75-78) not completely sure. We stayed at sites 46-50 which is a lot on its own, highly recommend this location for large groups. There was some flooding due to heaving rain so it would be safe to set up tents underneath the trees.
My only issue with this state park for camping is the bathrooms/showers! What a nightmare! The closet bathrooms to us had a sewer issue and ended up being closed the entire weekend, the ranger notified us that we can use the lake bathroom across the road which only had ice cold water for the showers! The bathrooms and showers are small, filthy and really need an upgrade. Otherwise I would definitely recommend as a great...
