My biggest gripe is actually about the restaurant and the service at the bar of woodys. We specifically looked up menus on the website, got here and was informed it was an hour wait. No problem, put our name in, stayed close and gambled. 45 min later we conveniently get a text saying they're ready to seat us. Fantastic! Get there, no one greets us. I ask, they're like, oh yeah a host will be with you. Guy arrives after a short wait, is the least welcoming host in service history ever (coming from someone who has waitressed, plenty of yrs btw). He walks off without saying a word. I assume we're supposed to follow him, so we do. I notice he doesn't pick up menus. Takes us all the way to a back table as far away from the exit as possible (when my mom's disabled), then kinda fusses when he realizes the 2 person table that's practically on top of the buffet is not enough space for her mobility scooter. It's after he places the silverware on the table and informs us that "plates are at the buffet" ... that I'm like, wait, it's buffet ONLY!?! "Oh yeah, our kitchen was closed today, so no menu" a passing by server said. My mom's had bariatric surgery, I never have a "buffet" appetite, and for $35, are yall really serious!?! Ugh... so we ended up at woodys "bar and grill" ... the bar is separate, the grill is only fried foods and walk up, order, come back collect your own food set up. The food was fine for fried food. Guy who took the order was a bit slow, but pleasant and trying his hardest. Older blonde haired woman at the bar just needs to retire because it's very clear she can't stand her job, acted like I was the biggest inconvenience on the face of the earth. Drinks are $$$$ - 4 crown n cokes later i had spent $50+ - Watersmeet would nevvver. About the only highlight was the lounge over by the hotel area. The man bartending was so sweet, drinks were still pricey, but his single pours about matched the double pours at Woodys (because that lady was sooooo not double pouring, those were singles ma'am. If you cant eye ball it, then use a shot glass. Or let the guy in the lounge show you what a double pour over ice looks like because he nailed it) ...and he didn't act like he couldn't wait for me to leave like the woman at woodys, which always helps. If they added some light, fresh appetizers at the Lounge, I'd just go there and never leave. Bottom line, service means everything and their bartenders at woodys and hostesses at the restaurant aren't cutting it. I'll likely never return here because of it, even tho we did get a bit lucky and had fun at the slots before it took what it...
Read moreI’m probably being generous with 3 stars but we’ve been staying here yearly for the past 4 years and have usually been very happy with our stay. We still had a good time but it seems like the usual attention to detail is becoming a little lax. We stayed for 3 nights and the rooms were ok but are starting to show some wear and tear. The water pressure in the shower was pretty weak and I noticed that the faucet was barely hanging onto the wall. For the amount of money we paid for the room, I was disappointed by the lack of effort to resolve the problem. They tried to send someone into to look at it but they didn’t go in our room because we had the privacy sign up. It was a little odd to me that they sent someone without letting us know since we would’ve taken the sign down or arranged to be in the room but whatever. We just let it go. It can also get a little noisy depending on where your room is- the doors and the toilets are pretty loud and if the rooms above you are occupied, you’re definitely going to hear some noise.
Secondly, they have a really nice pool area-especially if you’re traveling with children-but it’s closed indefinitely. From what the staff told us, it will probably continue to be closed as long as COVID-19 is a concern. I will say that the staff is generally really friendly and helpful although they could use some extra help at the front desk as the lines to check in seemed unusually long. The Dancing Waters Lounge is also closed although the deck is still open so you can enjoy the beautiful view. Woody’s snack bar was disappointing and they seemed to be out of a lot. If you’re looking to eat late night, it’s your only option and if you wait til an hour or two before closing time, you might as well just go to the vending machine. Which doesn’t take cards so have some cash on hand.
The Eagle’s Nest restaurant is still open for breakfast, lunch and dinner but there can be a wait due to limited seating. They still offer a buffet for dinner but not breakfast. The breakfast menu is pretty good and the prices are super reasonable. They also gave us drink coupons for each night of our stay ($1.50 off) and alcohol prices seem to be lower in comparison to other casinos we’ve been to.
Lastly, be prepared to wear a mask at all times. The front desk will give you one if you forget but you’ll have to wear it unless you’re eating...
Read moreWent to Lake of the Torches for 6 days last year and doing it again this year. Rooms are great...staff are polite and really helpful. They will bend over backwards to assist in any issues. Restaurants are exceptional for the location. By that I mean that this is not an urban setting where one might dine at 5 star restaurants for $50.00 a meal. We had all of our meals at Lake of the Torches restaurants and have no complaints at all, in fact, we loved the dining experience. Check out their breakfast buffet and seafood buffet!! Really good!! The gambling was also a good time. We gambled off and on ( slots ) for 6 days and only 1 day was a bust. Most of the machines gave us plenty of playing time in that wins would come in enabling us to keep playing. Many machines are updated, the casino area is clean and well attended to and the drinks are really inexpensive and very good. The other patrons were all jovial and people all celebrated with a good win. The casino also sends out coupons if you are on their mailing list. Free nights at the hotel, reduced rates at the hotel, money on the slots and many other promotional coupons. Plus...what a great place to locate and do the many side trips available "up north". No cooking, no driving around for food and very comfortable. The pool, whirlpool, sauna area is fabulous. Clean, quiet ( unless there are a zillion kids ) and really comfortable. The setting is beautiful with a lake view. Unless things have changed since last year, we will be doing this every year as it is a great...
