The efficencyof the ferry system here is very good. They are safe, quick, and their directions are easy to follow.
The beach area isnt much and I wouldnt say its a peaceful spot. There is the ferry and the breakwaters and although the beach may be comfortable the area is busy and loud. So if you want to dip a toe then fine but swim, i dont think it would be pleasant and you would have hundreds of onlookers.
If you are going to Washington Island and taking your car you may want to get tickets in advance. During tourist season they will sell out quickly.
The ride over is nice but if 60f or less don't go up top. The wind chill is really intense up there. The view from the upper deck is wondeful.
Once you are on the island. If you didn't take your car or vehicle, take the cherry train. It will stop at most of the best spots on the island and is worth it to see.
They stop at a tourist souvenir shop. A art place, a beach with incredible white stone, and a few other places including my favorite a old Nordic church.
