We decided against taking the ferry to Washington Island (they carry across vehicles and passengers not in vehicles, but if charging for a car, why charge the people inside the car too?) so we were exploring the nearby roadways and happened upon this awesome little park! We were delighted to find not only a great view of the Death's Door waterway, but make our way down to the water.
We picked up some education along the way via the interesting info posted as we headed down the metal staircase. Hearing the water hit along the shoreline is, in my opinion, one of nature's most soothing sounds. We watched the ferry cross without us on it, but I think we found something much more appealing and didn't even have to pay an exuberant amount for it.    Read moreAMAZING views! Especially during the later part of winter, the huge wedges of ice pushed on top of one another by the waves makes for some great photographs. The icy look and expansive water views can provide a glimpse of a remote, arctic climate. Stay up on the ridge during the winter unless you are very careful and have high grip shoes as the ice covers hidden areas and glazes over much of the water level rock… it gets very slippery. But this is certainly a must...

There's a steel staircase (winter accessible) that takes you down along the bluff to the water at Death's Door and the ancient cliffs and stones. A great place for a 15 minute rest with zero people. The stairs had dedications on the risers as you head back to the parking lot and I actually loved how people could be memorialized that way - and provide a really stable...
