I had the pleasure of exploring the rich history of the D & H Canal, and it was truly a captivating experience. The canal, with its well-preserved remnants and informative exhibits, offers a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era.
The exhibits provide a comprehensive overview of the canal's construction, purpose, and its significant role in the region's industrial development. The attention to detail in showcasing artifacts and historical photographs adds depth to the narrative, making it an engaging and educational visit.
Walking along the canal path, I couldn't help but appreciate the peaceful ambiance that contrasts with the bustling past it once witnessed. The interpretive signs along the way effectively guide visitors through the canal's story, connecting the dots between the past and the present.
One highlight was the knowledgeable staff, who was passionate about sharing the canal's history. His enthusiasm and willingness to answer questions added a personal touch to the experience, enhancing my understanding and appreciation of this vital piece of local history.
While the canal itself may no longer be operational, the preservation efforts have allowed visitors like me to step back in time and envision the hustle and bustle of canal life. The serene surroundings and well-maintained paths make it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or a reflective moment.
In conclusion, the D & H Canal Historical site provides a fantastic journey through time, offering a well-curated glimpse into a pivotal era of industrial history. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply curious about the past, this historical gem is...
Read moreCute museum with some great exhibits. The museum staff were friendly and helpful. My favorite exhibit was the model lock with water and all. Good use of model landscapes and artifacts from the era.
Has a very good walk with 5 locks, all of which are in pretty good shape considering they've been out of commission for over one hundred years. I was impressed by the snubbing posts that were still on site. The walk is a leisurely half mile. I'd make sure to bring tick spray as it is pretty well wooded.
The museum staff told us they will be moving from their current location to a larger building closer to the 5 lock walk, next year (2020). Looking forward to checking out...

The trail was beautiful but we had no idea how long the trail was. We only went to the second lock and stopped and turned back. The Museum was very I interesting. So nice to see the beginning of the Canal, we live at where it ends, the staff were very well versed with the history of the Canal and the workings of it from Kingston to Honesdale. I would definitely refer it to...
