Let me start out by saying that all of the wonderful things written in previous reviews, about the hosts, accommodations and environment are all true! So, rather then repeat what other reviewers have said, I will write this from my perspective as a solo traveler. ||||As a solo traveler and photographer, I always seek out unique situations and B and Bs that have high ratings for the host/hostess. Even though I cherish my "alone time," it's nice to meet new and interesting people who share a love of cooking/food (and in this case, wine also). And, the idea of staying at a vineyard without a lot of other people (i.e. like some tour in Napa) appealed to me. Benmarl is intimate because the B and B has 2 rooms so that is a great advantage for solos or couples. ||||Enjoying a chilled bottle of the wonderful dry rose, the generous and delicious cheese tray while sitting "solo," overlooking the amazing view of the Hudson and vineyards was such a treat. The peacefulness of it all needs to be experienced to be believed. ||||As a huge animal lover, I was lucky to meet their charming staff member, Augustine, who graciously guided me into the animal area. I helped him feed (and pet) the sheep, goats, gorgeous chickens, rooster and beautiful turkey. As others have noted...all of the staff are very friendly, passionate and will treat you like family. ||||Some of the details that I also liked that were not emphasized in previous reviews: ||||-Kathleen kindly stocked the room with a huge assortment of decaf teas and coffee. So thoughtful since I cannot have caffeine. ||||-You can customize your breakfast with a wide variety of choices, which is rare for a B and B but a truly wonderful option. Kathleen was even kind enough to pack me the items I could not finish at breakfast in a little "to go" picnic, which I enjoyed later. ||||-The bathroom had many items that a person might need or want but forget to pack. ||||-Most B and Bs require a two night stay. I noticed that Benmarl allows for one-nighters as long as there is availability. I will definitely be back and hope to bring my...

Read moreNice place, first time here, food was excellent. With that, the men preparing the food were dripping sweat (understandably) but dudes beard was literally over the pizza he made and not even covered, not a huge fan of sweat and beard hair in my pizza....i was also told they were outside food vendors so that might have nothing to do with the winery. Honestly that didnt really bother me as much as having to walk all over to get the actual food. But im not trying to nit pic...Service from all the staff was super. I cant say enough good things. The wine was great. With that said there were a few little things that detracted from the experience...please fix the toilet seat, its completely broken...And take better care of the condition of the bathrooms i had to kick toilet paper piles around so i didnt step on it. once again could happen anywhere but it needs to be maintained..please fix the ac. It is not cool (literally) to make people suffer in this heat. It was 91 degrees. In the building it was stifling and it was by far cooler outside because it was windy and raining..I truly felt bad for these highly professional and amazing workers who had to sweat it out in that place all day. I wanted nothing more than to eat and leave as fast as i could. I wish i could say it was better than 3 stars but we had to walk halfway across the property 4 times to go order food and try to walk back with two pizzas, french fries and zucchini sticks 4 sodas in the wind and rain just to sweat it out...not my best experience. To the people in charge here, im really not trying to beat you up too bad but these things need to be considered. I love what your doing but it needs a little bit of work. It was only one visit and i have no idea if it was something that is ongoing or just happened. With that being said it was pretty nice overall and i would consider coming back after these things...
