Excellent zoo. A different kind of review. People talk about the price. It's a privately funded zoo meaning they get zero help except for the patrons who walk thru those gates. You will need cash on you as the zoo is located in the Northwoods and as anyone would know, any internet in that area is hard to come by. (Locals complain about their internet service at their own homes on a daily basis) So instead of complaining about it, just bring cash. You'd be using it from the account you're using the card from. The employees are NOT picking up old food and reselling it. Maybe really look to see what they're actually doing. If they weren't doing that, someone would complain about it. This zoo does not abuse or neglect their animals. They take great strides in providing everything needed for the animals. They are on top of their game when an animal is not feeling well or is maybe even hurt. I have seen visitors themselves chase the animals and even put articles of clothing on a deer. Extremely stressful for that animal. This is what ruins it for everyone else. Abide by the rules of the zoo. Very simple process. I have also seen adults yell at the teens who work there. I have seen adults throw food at the teens working the stands. Absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary. This is not an example that needs to be set. Read the signs throughout the zoo. The zoo is not the problem. The visitor is when they don't comply or feel they are entitled. Bring cash, enjoy the day and stop complaining so much. If you truly do not want to be around people, than stay home. The employees work their butts off and they don't need to be harrassed by visitors who have nothing better to do but ridicule a place that is one of the most cleanest zoos there is. Try working there for a day and then maybe people would realize the hard work and dedication put into that zoo. The visitors themselves are what ruin it for others because they simply cannot follow rules. I can guarantee you those animals are taken better care of than most household pets. Now go enjoy the day and be kind. That will always...

DO NOT GO HERE! Tickets for 3 adults were around $100, but that's not my main issue. Birds with clipped wings, small enclosures, dying animals, anxious pacing! Multiple birds (peacock and macaw) had clipped wings, not to mention enclosures way too small for multiple wild animals. The otters (5 of them) we're in a small enclosure with their feces surrounding. They kept anxiously pacing the wall of their enclosure. And again, there wasn't much room for them to pace because of their small enclosures. The wolves (3 of them) we're in an enclosure that a human probably wouldn't last an hour in, they were so anxiously pacing. A Doe and her fawn were constantly bothered by visitors (who are able to pet certain animals). The mother kept trying to get in between her baby and the anxious customers to no avail. Not to mention the other deer. One had a swollen Antler that was drooping down by its eye, most of the deer didn't eat from people, but this one at a whole bag like it hadn't been fed by the zoo. Another deer had horrible conjunctivitis, pus literally dripping from its face, it also had a massive open sore on its nose. You could are it's ribs and spine as it laid down, it couldn't walk to the place where visitors aren't able to bother the animals. Even though it was laying down you could see loose skin around it's stomach, open sores on it's legs, and missing patches of fur. My family and I gave him 5 while bags of food, it was so starving! We left it another pile of food it could reach whilst laying down before we left. We didn't even make it through the first area on the map before we left, I cried almost the entire time. Animals should not be treated like this. They need space to move. A shorte but happy life is better than a longer torturous one. I hope they use the money they get to expand enclosures and help the injured animals walking...

The zoo was a great zoo, but there were a couple things that really made us upset. The interaction with the animals was great. Our kids loved how they could feed and pet and get up close to so many animals. They got to interact with rabbits, goats, bunnies, tortoises, dear, a baby kangaroo, giraffes, parakeets, and even feed apple juice to a bear. That part was great. However, the price gouging was out of control. First of all, it was fairly expensive to get in, but that price alone would have been worth it. But the food to feed the animals was ridiculous. I expect to pay something, but it was $4 for a tiny bag of food. There were food dispensers for the goats for $.50 but you got barely enough to cover the palm of my hand. $5 for a tiny cup of carrots for the giraffe. $2 for a small stick to feed the birds. Once you are inside with your kids, they try to get you at every turn to spend more money. The other thing that made me upset was the price of the human food. I understand zoo food is going to be expensive, but we paid a lot of money for small portions of crappy food they warmed up in a microwave. If you are going to pay that much for food, at leave give good quality food. The straw that broke the camel's back was that there were no water fountains anywhere in the park, and the vending locations charged for tap water. Really!?!? You can't even give water away on a hot sunny day? You are going to make us pay to let our kids drink water? That is crossing a line in my opinion. It's too bad because it really is a great zoo, but they need to be more reasonable about what you get...

This was a great little zoo...though in reality, not so little! We stopped on our way home from a weekend "up north," expecting to spend a couple of hours and ended up being there for over four! With over 1700 animals, there is some beloved animal for everyone. Deer roam free among the paths and look to visitors for a handout... but make sure you only give them the approved food pellets you can purchase from vending stations throughout the park. You can also feed the giraffes by hand...their long deep purple tongues are incredibly dextrous! The best bit for us was the Safari Tram... a 25-minute ride among Zebras, Bongo, Oryx, Wildebeest, Eland, Kudu, and Ostriches! Three baby zebras were gamboling around with their mamas...one was.only two days old! Very adorable! I have only two somewhat nitpicky complaints: 1 - Many of the enclosures are of an older fenced-in design. While this takes into consideration the safety of both animals and visitors, it is not particularly natural, nor does it allow many animals any sort of privacy or the ability to be off-display in their living environment. It also makes photography more challenging. 2 - It was a bit expensive. We frequent several Association of Zoos & Aquariums accredited zoos, which are both larger and with more amenities for visitors with more open and naturalistic animal enclosures. They have the same admission price or less, especially when you add in the cost of the tram. This zoo is not accredited by the AZA. However, it is extremely clean and meticulously maintained.

This place is amazing!! We absolutely loved our visit. There is a variety of animals throughout the park. You will see some favorites like giraffes, wallaby, monkeys, big cats (cougars, lynx, bob cats, leopards) and a variety of animals you have never seen before! Upon entrance there is a variety of animals to feed with the food staggered around the park for .50 cents. We enjoyed feeding the goats (baby goats), ducks, fish, swans and deer. Feeding the giraffes is a fun experience. It only costs 5.00 for up to 4 people. You can also feed the parakeets for 2.00. This was my daughter’s favorite experience. Parakeets fly free in the enclosed aviary and land freely on guests. If you take the safari park tram you will get to see animals that are near extinction, some aren’t even found in the wild anymore. The zoo is part of a global breeding program to hopefully reintroduce these animals back into their natural habitat. Watch out, some like to board the tram or get up close and personal. It’s all in good fun! This is such a fun interactive experience for kids and adults alike! We spent the day here. It is a big park with lots to do. I saw more animals up close then I ever have at our local Milwaukee zoo. This is a do not miss experience for any animal lover!

STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE AFFRAID OF GETTING SICK WITH COVID!! The place is packed with people and they have a paper on the door before you enter about 4th ammendment rights. So masks are not worn. The over all vibe was sad. The animals are in small cages on concrete. I felt awful for the bear. The cage was so small and it was on only concrete. Same thing with many of the other animals. There is a newer section that is much better for animal cages. The animals have grass and more room. Much better vibe on that side. There is a building you can go into and have birds land on you. I posted a picture of it. I did not go into it because it was jam packed with people. There is a tram that you can see through the park to see other animals. The price is 8.00 at it a person and cash only. I'm not sure if you can use a credit card at the gift shop to buy tickets for it. There is a walk through a trail through a marsh area. Avoid it unless you are interested in seeing overly enlarged plastic animals. That's all you will see in this area. The price is 20.99 a person - including tax. It was nice to pet the deer and goats. Bring quarters for food for the animals. Parking is free.
