Very popular hiking destination. I would rate this as moderate, or hard if you go and up down the short trail. I recommend going up the short, which is pretty steep and mostly all big rocks, definitely gets the heart rate going, certainly a good workout on your legs. The view at the summit was nice, but was honestly expecting more for the work put in to climbing up! Went down the long trail, much easier, no rocks, but need to pay attention to all the tree roots on the ground, easy to trip if you don’t watch watch where you’re stepping. Even though the long trail is twice as long in distance, it took half the amount of time to get down than the short steep trail up. All in all a great experience, would highly recommend. If you’re a beginner, take the long trail...

Great little hike only about 2 miles total, We did not pay attention to the map and missed the start of the trail so detoured about two extra miles lol. We decided to take the longer less steep trail up which was not bad at all, then coming back down we took the steep shorter route which was a straight rock scramble most of the way… challenging but great experience! The view was beautiful but not quite 360. The trees have grown and block some of the view but still so much to enjoy and take in. Again pictures do not capture the actual vision. Have this three stars because we were expecting a more challenging hike with a better view of Heart Lake, you could hardly see the lake but it was...

Drove over 200 miles to find out that Whiteface mountain is closed until November, however Mt Jo became an amazing alternative! Took the short trial up and long trial down(loop). The short trail is steep and challenging but the long trial is easy. I can see the short trial being slippery during rainy days because of the rocks. Roads are muddy but BEAUTIFUL summit view! Totally worth the visit! Note: Make sure you wear proper hiking shoes. Also, they have maps available at the information center which was...

Important: The short option is very steep, with loads of boulders. The long option has a gentle slope, the path has no boulders, and in fact has soft moss making it outright comfortable! We did the short one up, and long down. The view at the top is amazing, though the lake view is hidden by trees. The forest path is shaded, and the trees are changing colors all over in early Oct. Totally worth doing. Parking is $15 at the entrance, and restrooms are very clean and free.

No cell reception in the parking lot so be sure to download a map before you leave. The hike itself has two options - one longer, less challenging and one shorter, more challenging. We opted for the longer route up and shorter route down. Definitely the way to go for two non-Adirondack hikers. The views at the top are worth it. You feel like you are in a bowl surrounded by mountains. (Spot the parking lot you came from). Pack water and pace yourself!
