The fire tower campground is spectacular, especially for being free. Clean, good tasting water throughout the sites, clean bathrooms, well maintained trails and sites. No showers, but again, it's free.
Most importantly, there are a dozen or so horse stables right in the campground, in the southwestern corner. They're far enough from the campsites that you won't be bothered by smell or noise, but close enough that you can watch them all day.

Read moreMy husband and I have camped weekends at Sugar Hill with our horses for the last 3 years. The horse stables and park itself are safe and very well kept. The bathroom facilities are clean. There are water wells to fill buckets (for horses) or for cleaning gear. There are fire rings and hibachi grills for each site but you provide your own wood/charcoal. Throughout the camping season they have water, clean and flushing bathrooms, sites with picnic tables and fire pits. There is a fire tower you can access for a better view. The grounds are clean and there is access to garage cans, recycling bins and a sink to wash your dishes. I stayed in October and it was extremely quiet and peaceful.
