This is the first time we have tried a free campground in New York and only or 3rd experience with free campground overall. Hands down this was the best free campsite we have been to. It has a fixed structure bathroom with running water! It also has a fire tower that you can climb up and get good 360 degree views from as long as you are not too nervous seeing the ground from the top of the tower. I did get all the way to the top four pictures and videos but then it started to rain as I was coming down. I'm not normally nervous about things like that but it is nerve-wracking wet!! We decided to set up camp under a beautiful old tree. There were a number of campers there too and some had horses. There are a lot of horse trails around there we learned after. We relaxed and cooked up our chili and cheese baked potatoes that has become a staple of our campfire cooking. It was a great stay until the lightning storm that started at 5 am! We playing on getting out before it stated but it woke us up. Instead we packed up when a lull in the storm came. We were able to get everything into the car dry except the tent. The universe was really looking out for us!

Cool little state park with a fire watch tower you can climb to top and get a great view of the surrounding countryside. Saw this place on maps and thought it would be cool to climb to the top of the tower. The tower stairs are steep and narrow and it looks not as tall from the ground, there are lots of steps. At the top you get a great view though. I visited at the peak of fall colors and just had some drop-dead gorgeous views of the New York Countryside. There was some camping and trails to walk around the state park. It was moderately busy when I visited. Definatley worth a trip here if your close or in the finger lakes region of New York.

We came to climb the tower and hike on the Fingerlakes Trail. It was also fun seeing all the horses of people who were camping here. You find access to the trail by heading toward the horse stalls along the wood line. The trails pick up behind these horse stalls. We hiked the trail the Fingerlakes Trail West. We passed 2 small dried up streams so not much water views that way (it has been very dry as of late around here). Next time we'll try going East. The trail was very well marked and maintained.

I stayed here overnight in late March. There were a couple of free designated campsites open at that time, two in the lot I chose which is across the road a couple feet to the outhouse. I’m not picky but chose not to utilize that space during my time there, although it was open. The road in wasn’t great but still worked fine for my vehicle that’s not 4wd or awd. Overall it was dark and quiet here, mostly shaded in the area I was. I had no cell signal with Verizon, wifi or data wise. I would stay here again but it wouldn’t be my first choice. It’s nearby other attractions I was seeing which is...
