It was OK. Probably won't do it again. Good: you do get into the woods and it's a good workout. There are LOTS of incredibly beautiful butterflies, large and small (end of July). The trail is very well defined and has yellow blazes. Bad: I did not enjoy how narrow the trail was in most places, with vegetation flicking at me all the time. All I could think of was TICKS. Also, anytime the trail went up or down a hill, it was "paved" with round rocks of various sizes, the kind that love to just roll out from under you and try to break your ankle. Everywhere else was very smooth and flat surface. Other notes: remember bug spray, around your head, too. There are no real "views" except the very first stretch before you get to the observation area. I was very disappointed with the "stone elephant", which looked more like the head of a whale with its mouth open to me, but that's just my opinion. Parking is easy right off the road, no restrooms. Also, and I swear this happened on a weekday at 11:30 AM. I was almost done with the hike, the parking lot was in view and I see a guy walking up the hill to do the hike. He was strangely monochrome, and then I realized he was completely naked. Completely. He might've had shoes on. I didn't feel threatened and said hi to him, but it was very strange, lol.

First things first. The cheapest parking is $8 for locals and $11 for the dragon/other state residents. In the case you miss it, the fine is $160. The trails are poorly marked and you will certainly miss the elephant rock. Oh, by the way, the info about the fees and the fee drp box are placed in the way so you will easily miss it to make the way to $160.

An enjoyable hiking trail with the Bald Bluff Overlook being a scenic stop not far from the trailhead. Once at the overlook we saw a sign for the Stone Elephant and decided to adventure on to that. It was a beautiful fall day and was truly enjoyable. Maybe a little too difficult a hike for our toddler, but she still had a blast.

Great hike workout with kids! Scenic overlook is right at the beginning after a good incline starting at the 6-car parking lot. After seeing the views we took the trail leading to the northeast into the forest. It was a beautiful and quiet trail, but didn't come back around to the parking lot, so we had to turn around when the kids got tired. That was right after we noticed the trail was parallel to a horse trail. Overall we walked 2.5 miles. I'd love to come back and do the entire trail to Tamarack, I think it's 3 miles one way. We...
