I was expecting a picturesque woodsy setting. But, it is just an ugly flat building next to a big flat wide-open parking lot. And, the trout ponds are just small ponds with a gazillion trout stacked upon each other. There is certainly no feeling of nature or a natural habitat. There is nothing that feels natural about the place. Despite that, we had driven an hour (in two cars with six people - three of the which were family from out of town!) to get there to have a late lunch and a unique experience. We had called ahead (before 2PM) and asked about closing time and were told it was 3PM (just like the sign out front). We specifically asked if we needed to get there by 2:30 and they said, "No, as long as you get here before 3PM, you will be served. " Yet, we showed up at 2:50 and were told, "the kitchen just close two minutes ago." And, "Did you have reservations?!" They were quite unapologetic about it - actually disputing the fact until the culprit eventually admitted it. This could have gone so much better with better customer service. 1. The person that took our phone call could have told us to please get there by 2:45 or they may shut down -- or, "After 2:30, we need a reservation; may I have your name and number?" 2. When we arrived, they could have said, "Oh, we were just closing two minutes ago, -- but since you called ahead, we will make it right and open the kitchen." 3. The girl that took the call could have told the kitchen that someone called asking about serving times and told the kitchen she had promised the kitchen would be open until 3PM. Or, 4. Could have said, "I am sooo sorry, the girl that took your phone call made a mistake... Please, let us give you a coupon for your next visit (30% off, a $50 certificate or some such as reasonable compensation-- seeing as we had wasted an hour of six people's time, $20 in gas and now had six hungry people). Any one of these would have been a reasonable response. Yet, we got a very unapologetic crew in a hurry to get home....
Read moreThis place has some special stuff. Their trout and salmon filets, salmon burgers and salmon jerkey are my favorites, but everything is 5 of 5. Oh, the spreads are also insanely good. Service is also 5 of 5, and 100% of the time in my vast experience. There is a 1-star review here based solely on a single experience that quite frankly sounds made up, and solely about some sort of perceived less-than-perfect service level, but every other review is a 5-star. To say this place is only a 4.6-star place is way light IMO. It is 4.99 of 5 in the long run, no doubt about it. I'm a dude that loves salmon, as well as trout. I obtain both of these types of fish's meat in numerous forms and on a weekly basis from several suppliers. If Rushing Waters was closer to me, I'd narrow it down to one, maybe two. However, if I were able to narrow it down to only two, the other supplier would be a nearby river, and would only be for trout. BTW, I will not reveal this trout spot for less than one billion dollars. DM me if interested and can prove you have the...
Read moreClio went with 6 friends for a hook and cook. They each had their own rods, totally necessary with this group (if you go with kids-sharing OK), and caught 4 "beautiful trout." The 3 w/o fish, no problem, all 7 intended to order off the menu at The Trout House restaurant. Those who caught, took home their trout, perfectly filleted and packed on ice by the staff at only $8.75/lb (and probably being shared with their significant other as I type this), good idea. Cost for trout shore lunch with your caught fish $11, fish provided by Trout House for same meal $14. Too bad Clio caught zero (none for me.) Clio said staff was great getting them equipped for the pond, restaurant server excellent - lunch served hot, great fresh green beans, even provided separate checks and filled water glasses! Apparently, over and over. Seven stars for the experience My own notes, this is a well run trout FARM, not a wild river fly fishing adventure. ...
