Beautiful place for a hike, and a few different length trails to choose from. Historic, informational, serene, although its close to the road the only thing you can hear is birds and frogs from the oscars within. The only bathroom at this time of year was at the McMiller parking, just so you are aware. A few of the trail markers are missing which makes it easy to get mixed up on the trails. There also was no trail brochures when we arrived, so we didn't have a map and had to rely on coming upon a map marker (which has the map posted with it) "Big Hill" was definitely worth the short steep hike, the view even in fog is incredible. We ended up taking the blue trail and about halfway through the foliage changes to beautiful tall pines and it is truely lovely. We saw 3 oscars to memory, looming oaks, lovely birch, pines, and even a couple deer. Do not recommend taking children here, or at least anywhere past the buildings. Not a place for kids. Great hike for a...
Read moreVery interesting nature trail with a lot of history. The property was once the Stute family farm. A few buildings are still on the property in addition to a couple natural springs. Areas of interest are marked and explained in self-guided tour brochures that can be found at the start of the trail. Most of the trail is well kept, however the upper trail leading to Big Hill is very narrow and a little over grown. BUT, the view is definitely worth it. Big Hill is the highest point in Kettle Moraine and I highly recommend taking the hike to the top if you do visit the trail. Lastly, the trail is free, however the parking lot was closed when I visited (August 2016). I easily parked at the Emma Carlin Trail Head a few yards down the street, but be aware that this is a fee area. All in all, a great piece of nature...
Read more3/10/24 - Finally got back to finish the trail. Enjoyed it very much. There were quite a few downed trees on the trail, some quite large but not too large that we weren't able to get over or around them. It was a nice quick hike.
12/25/23 - This was a great trail to walk! I can't wait to go back and walk further on it (Big Hill). I also want to follow the Nature Trail. We didn't get very far as we did a lot of exploring the buildings and taking pictures(I didn't post them all).
My only concern/issue was almost stepping on a pile of dog poo (evidence in pic below). I don't understand people who don't clean up after their animals and leave it on a path for...
