If you've read the books, you'll enjoy visiting LIW's birth site. The winding county road out of Pepin is very pretty. The cabin is lovely though I don't know if it's a replica of the cabin the Ingalls built.
The soybean fields were maturing and the trees were blowing in the breeze. I did notice the lack of bugs on my windshield. Is that from corn and soybean pesticides or monoculture?
Though Miss Laura never returned to Pepin, Wisconsin, it was a treat to visit the place of her birth. Worth a stop and a great route to avoid Twin Cities traffic. Don't miss the sweet little museum in Pepin, WI.
Nice picnic table, area to walk the dogs and let the kids run and decent outhouse options.

You park and can go right up to the house, day or night, any time of year. The door uses a rope latch system and there's a sign asking people to keep the door shut. The interior is small, but there's an information wall that's a good excuse to linger and read.
