We came to the Hurd farm for our annual fall field trip with our students. Our students were having a great time with outdoor activities until Sarah ruined their experience. She belittled and humiliated our students. She treated our students as thieves. Her guest services were repulsive and disgusting. It all began when our students collected their apples, they were asked to drop off the collected apples on the bus before proceeding to activities however the students were exiting and decided to pursue activities and carry their apples to such activities. As students tried to get through the barn store, Sarah and company closed the gate so no one couldn't pass through as if this was a security check point where people had to open bags to be checked. She was rude and began aggressively grabbing student bags and opening them. She insisted that no one was allowed to collect apples in tote bags or backpacks which one teacher had encouraged students to do for sustainability reasons. Then they were told they had to have the apples in their Hurd's plastic bags. The reason Sarah insisted to make sure that they would not take any more apples than the school had paid for. Since we never had this negative experience before staff members didnt think about counting the plastic bags before handing them out to students. Sarah proceeded to have students form a line and any apples ouside the plastic hurd bags she would confiscate them and ask students to dump them in a box. She then in anger indicated that she did not know what she was going to do with apples. She indicated that if the school didn't pay an additional 500 dollars she would have to dump them. How did Sarah know the amount of apples in the two small boxes were worth 500 dollars should we say Sarah was the thief here? How would that sound? Her behavior and approach was unacceptable. When she was told that no one was going to pay her an additional 500 dollars for the apples her response was " I wasted all this time doing all this work for nothing". Great comment Sarah!!! We will not be planning a trip with Hurd's Family Farm in the future. The reviews have been only positive ones , however a person like Sarah and her rude and disrespectful deameanor will turn off people from ever coming to this farm. There are plenty of other apple-picking providers in the area. I would recommend taking your business to...
Read moreWe had come to this farm as an annual fall field trip for our students. In the past, the apple picking was great and the students enjoyed outdoor activities like the bouncy area and the obstacle course. Things were different this year, though, thanks to the aggravating lack of guest services provided by Sarah. The apple-picking experience started off fine, but then my students were treated with suspicion as if we were stealing. We were asked to drop off the collected apples on the bus before proceeding to activities (which was a good idea). But, as the students were exiting through the barn store, Sarah and company closed the gate so we couldn't pass through. She insisted that we were not allowed to collect apples in our own tote bags or backpacks (which I had encouraged students to do for sustainability reasons). We were told we had to have the apples in their Hurd's plastic bags. The reason provided: to make sure that we would not take any more apples than the school had paid for. We inquired, and they said we were only entitled to 200 bags (we had 140 students). Sarah then proceeded to tell all students to take all the apples out of their "personal" bags and put them into their provided plastic ones. Students then had to form a line leading out of the barn while Sarah meticulously checked the bags and asked students to open their backpacks to make sure that no extra apples were taken with them. If she found any outside of the Hurd's bags, she would confiscate them (Sarah's own words) and dump them into a box near the exit. Students complied, and then took the apples onto the bus. However, the students felt deflated; they asked why they were being treated like criminals that were stealing apples that was part of the experience. I did not have a good answer for them, especially since this had not been our experience in years prior. Suffice to say, we will not be planning a trip with Hurd's Family Farm in the future. The reviews for the place seem mostly positive, so I only wonder what about our students made Sarah treat us with such horrible customer service. There are plenty of other apple-picking providers in the area. I would recommend taking your business to...
Read moreThis was an amazing farm. Me, my little person and our friends enjoyed it too. So you may be wondering why such a low score. Well I'll explain. An older woman who was white with strawberry blonde hair that was cut short and curly who worked there made us feel uncomfortable. My friend is black and I'm Spanish. We went on a Friday so it wasn't even remotely busy. Me and my friend both bought VIP passes because we wanted the kids to do everything. The website states children 3 and under a free. Well her son is 3. The woman apparently was watching us on the cameras (she told my friend she was) while we were on their bouncy thing. She noticed my friend didn't have her band on, her son did though because she wanted it on. The woman proceeds to state that my friend and him both needed a band in order to do the activities. (There were a couple of white boys on the bouncy thing with no bands but she bothered us to get a band). My friend said no he's 3 the woman said no 3 year olds do pay. Now I don't know about anyone else but the word "and" is a conjunction so 3 and younger means 3 year olds are apart of that free. Now it wasn't that we didn't want to pay it was the principle that she argued about it. So we didn't go buy him a band and we didn't do anymore activities just picked apples and pumpkins. She saw us at the barn. We were interested in some herbs so she offered to get us some herb bags and see if we paid for a band. We were on our way out and again he's 3 which means he is free. She proceeds to say she saw us on her cameras on the slide. She was harassing us to pay for him even though he is 3. Her reasoning was 3 and up pay. We didn't get the herbs and we didn't pay for his band she said "I'll let you go this time but next time you have to pay." I would love to go back but the fact that it sounded as if she watched us on the cameras the whole day bothered us. Not sure if I'd want my child to witness any type of prejudice while trying to have...
