Hidden gem! This county park not far from Wausau is not well known but it is well worth the effort to visit. The rock formations are dramatic with the river rushing through them. The riverside trail is not too difficult but there are some steps, tree roots and small hills to traverse. The downstream side seems easier to me. Going back upstream from the walk across trail bridge was a little more challenging but doable (even for a 60 year old with bad knees). We did not walk the other riverside trails that went upstream from the road bridge but I did them years ago. Mostly flat and not too strenuous on that end as well. The forest is mixed deciduous and evergreen trees with many wildflowers and a lovely mix of woodland ferns in the undergrowth.

It is in the middle of nowhere with so much to view. While there, the only issue were the bathrooms. They were super disgusting! Super stinky! We were informed that the porta potty style toilets are not emptied throughout the summer, but only once a year. This information came from someone that worked there. She witnessed us near the restrooms and we were gagging on the fumes. It was bad! If you have a camper, you won't have an issue if you have a working toilet. Tents, sorry, it...
