Oh. My. Goodness.
I found this park on the Wisconsin Fall Map tracking site and had the most incredible day.
It is such a beautiful place to be and there are so many things to see and do. I parked and headed straight for the cliffs and rushing water. While I am posting a bunch of great pictures, like everyone else, they don't do the place any justice. I bet I took 200 and could have taken more.
I walked about an hour on each side of the river and on each side of the bridge and still didn't see it all. I had a late start to my day so I got there in the afternoon, I didn't want to leave but it was getting dark. I will be going back.
The trails are wonderfully managed and there is something for every level of walker to a more experienced hiker. I climbed a few, just to capture some great shots.
I met the loveliest people from Illinois who were also there after reading about the place on the same site I had. Denise and Craig (or Greg) made the best walking companions and offered to walk with me since I was alone. I feel like we all had a great time.
If you haven't been here, add it your list, you'll not be...
Read moreI hadn't visited this park in over 30 years. I have fond memories of when my father took me there as a child. With his passing a few years ago, I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to take my own kids there. Needing to go for a hike for fresh air and exercise after weeks of virtual teaching for me and learning for my children, today was a wonderful day to enjoy the warm weather and wonderful fall colors. The main rocks weren't as large as (but more popular than) I remember from my youth, but I hope my own father enjoyed watching me climb on them as much as I enjoyed the smiles on his grandkids' faces as they did today. We also enjoyed hiking the loop around both sides of the river. I can't imagine my own parents having navigated all the terrain to take us around the full loop, I like to think myself more spry than my parents were when I was the same age as my kids. Great paths to follow that were not strenuous. Great place for a family to spend a few hours, I regret waiting this long...
Read moreAn absolute gem, this is one of my favorite areas in Wisconsin to hike. You won't find many destinations that match the awe and beauty of this magical place.
There are several trail choices here. Plenty of parking, campgrounds, toilets, shelters, a playground, and some of the best and most unique views in the state.
Mind your footing, some of the areas can get pretty slick, and there's mud in spots that'll take your shoe off, lol.
Cell reception can be pretty spotty here. We had no signal this time, but have had service in past visits.
This is a "must-see" destination!
There are Pokestops and gyms here, but you may not be able to...
