Hallock State Park Preserve offers a total of 225 acres. Hallock State Park Preserve is a shorefront park preserve that offers nearly one mile of pristine beachfront on the North Shore of Long Island along the Long Island Sound.
Hiking, nature walks, and bird watching are available on the eastern portion of the property. Development of the remainder of the preserve is in the planning stages and may include formal trails, environmental education, and activities appropriate for a park preserve

Yes, it is $8 to park in either the front of back parking lot. Yes, I did see a note that made an exception for those parking for 30 minutes or less (particularly the gift shop). SO...until further notice, perhaps you can consciously opt out on the $8 fee if you walk through the trails in 30 minutes or less. Leave a note in your car saying "be back in 30 minutes or less" :).

Read moreThis is a great place to walk and I'm glad it's preserved and not houses. ----$8 is a LOT to ask for parking ----Parking lot is way too far from the beach: over 1/4 mile down a gravel path, some of it steep. Unless you're in good shape, it's a hike. No reason parking couldn't have been closer. ----Dogs not allowed. Really? Even on a leash? ----No trash cans: I pick up trash regularly walking from Iron Pier to Hallock Park and there are NO trash cans on the beach or in the upper parking lot. ----No driving on the beach? People have been driving, with a town permit, from Iron Pier to Levon's FOREVER to fish. Now there's rarely anyone on the Hallock Park part of the shore fishing. ----it's closed two days...
Read moreHallock State Park Preserve was a nice hike. Normally there is an $8 parking fee but it is waived during the winter season. There are two parking lots - one at the entrance where the payment kiosk is and one at the trailheads.
There were four trails and we initially hiked the Maritime Forest Trail which has several scenic overlooks of the sound and a good view of Hallocks Pond. We then used the Beach Access Trail which descends down to the beach. To return to the parking lot we used the Beach Approach Trail which is covered with crushed rock.
