My father told stories about being at Sampson for boot camp. I was amazed at how much more there was to the story than what he told. This camp was a monumental achievement in a time of war, created to train 411,429 Navy and Air Force men and women for war. The sheer size of the facility - how many buildings were erected in such a short time is a testament of the United States will to win the war. The museum is housed in the old refurbished brig, and the photos and artifacts in the museum are all that remains of this historic undertaking. I hope my generation is never tested the way my father's generation was, but for achievements like the Sampson US Naval Training Station they truly are the 'Greatest...

We just happened to be there during a reunion of vets previously stationed here during the war and WOW, was that powerful. Lots of things to look through and info and displays available, as well as the big items outside to check out. Very cool - how lucky are we to be able to visit this and learn about it, as each year there are less and less of the actual men and women who served around to tell...
ย ย ย Read moreIt's beautiful here! Water & electric hook ups at many of the camp sites. Lots of space between camping neighbors. There are small cabins that sleep up to 4 available. Cabins have no amenities or bathrooms. Only a double bed, with single bunk above and another single bed on the other side of room. They look very spacious, however. (We didn't stay in one, we just stepped inside one). Don't hesitate...
