I recently visited Plattekill Mountain Ski Resort on their opening day with a group of 8 girlfriends, and it was such a memorable experience! The snow was still being made, but that didn’t dampen our fun one bit.
One of my friends took a snowboarding lesson, while three of us decided to try skiing. Jeff at the rentals was a superstar—he was incredibly helpful, even assisting us in getting our gear on properly. His friendly and patient demeanor set a positive tone for the day.
As we were finding our way around, we bumped into someone named Shawn. While it didn’t seem like he was an employee (no official uniform), he went out of his way to show us around and make our visit so enjoyable. Shawn seemed to know everyone at the resort and gave us invaluable skiing tips. He truly was the highlight of our trip!
For the girls who preferred a more relaxed vibe, the bar became their hangout spot. The drinks were fantastic and surprisingly inexpensive—definitely a win!
To top off our day, two of us ended up needing to be brought down the mountain by rescue, which turned out to be another highlight of the trip. We laughed the entire way down, turning what could have been a mishap into a hilarious memory.
Overall, Plattekill Mountain was so much fun! The combination of helpful staff, friendly people, great drinks, and plenty of laughs made for an unforgettable day. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to return!
One word of advice: avoid making errors when purchasing tickets online unless you're certain of your plans. There's a fee to make any changes, which could catch you off guard. Choose carefully to save yourself paying extra...
Read moreWent there yesterday, 1/26/14. Was my first time visiting this mountain - usually I go to Hunter or Windham. We got our tickets on liftopia for $20 a piece so figured why not give it a shot. Full day adult lift ticket is normally $58, so for $20 we cant really complain. But I will say we got up there and I think I can safely say half the trails were closed. Take a look at the trail map they have online - it is a smaller mountain and they only have two lifts. The left side lift had only one trail open that I could tell, and it was a double black. You could see where people ventured off on their own down roped off trails but with the amount of snowfall we've had why arent they groomed and open? The right side lift had several trails roped off as well. So that part was disappointing - drive 3.5 hours and half the mountain is inaccessable? I'd be more upset if I had paid full price. I'd guess on a good day with all the trails open the mountain is much more fun - but doing the same trails all day like we did does get boring after a while. The cafe area was great, friendly people all around as well as the employees. If I was taking my kids up this is probably a great place - not big at all, and all the trails we went on all ended at the same point, so very easy to keep track of your group. If you can get a deal on lift tickets then it's probably worth it, better than not skiing at all, but I wouldnt pay full price for what we...
Read moreWent this weekend to ski as a beginner. I am 36 and have skiied once 10 years ago and once 20 years ago. I took a private 1 hour lesson which I highly recommend in order to get reminders and tips. My instructor showed me the one easy trail called Powder Puff. He explained the 2cd easy trail listed was not actually available since there wasn't enough snow. The trail started off nice but quickly became terrifying. There were very steep sections near the cliffs edge with no room to slow down. I fell several times. My instructor agreed that much of the trail was for more of an intermediate level. After 2 runs with the instructor I did one by myself. After 3 runs I was done for the day because there were no other trails to go on and I was pretty banged up. I explained at guest services that I was disappointed with the lack of easy trails and that I had fallen several times and was hurt, and I would not like to come back the next day as I had originally planned. They would not refund me for the next days ski rentals and lift tickets, but did let transfer the ticket to use for tubing the next day, so I ended up losing quite a bit of money. A bit disappointed in not receiving a refund, and turned off from returning. It is a shame because the lodge, bar area, tubing, and trails did seem very nice to return to when I advance and become an intermediate...
