Swimmers itch so if you are sensitive beware. Bugs, deet and all doesn't really work. Honestly it's not my top campground....Buffalo Bay has prettier views of the islands and is a much closer more central launch to get to the islands. Calmer waters. Nice marina for people who live on their boats and hotel casino has very nice accomodations. Casino hotel is smoke free. If you need to escape bugs and stuff lol
I don't know about you, but I would rather just shower at the hotel after my island excursion rather than go a buggy campsite. There are quarter showers at LSB though but not very warm when I used it. And personally I would launch at Myers Beach for the caves, it's closer, pretty foot trail and a long beautiful beach.
Little Sand Bay is alright if you need a spot to land for anglers and not needing "things to do" and "entertainment." It's a great spot to hit up Sand or York island. It is a more "remote wilderness" and not necessarily pet-kid friendly as there is a lot of wildlife around. So watch them. And yes, it is "remote" meaning be prepared to put your phone down for real life time and come with something to eat. It's a day trip and not really a choice swimming area in my book where the bay area has nicer waters.
As for biking, I love the trails in the national forest. The bike trail networks are amazing and if I'm going for a bike adventure things like the CAMBA trails are phenomenal and the campgrounds in the national forest are also amazing. I mean, I don't really see the point in biking past a bunch of people's houses at this site....when the county has much more to offer....
This is on a reservation in residential areas so speeding through is disruptive and rude at best. There are people exercising their treaty rights here, be respectful and mindful as a guest on someone...
Read moreBrand new visitor center to open 11/2019. Right now it's an info booth and a self guided walking tour. The tour has a damaged dock so it's off limits. If you're looking for the hands-on visitor center then I'd recommend waiting until Sept. Once all is finished up, I predict a great place to visit. There's a private campground and...

But you really don't need visitor center for beautiful views of the lake and the displays and activities they have outside of the building. A useable bathroom during "closed" times would be nice and realistically better for the...
