Heading to Kingston, NY, we saw a sign and stopped to check this hidden treasure out. We were absolutely thrilled that we did. The day was perfect weather wise, but the trail was very wet in spots. We weren't prepared for the hike, but decided to give it a try. The walk is almost tropical as you are surrounded by lush greenery. There are areas you can view the river close up and also to see wildlife and all kinds of plants. It's a relatively easy walk, but be careful if the tide is coming in. As you get closer to the lighthouse, there is an area where they have boots available. We decided against using them, but soon found out tide was moving in.....Instead of making it worse, it was actually a blast! We just took off our shoes and moved on. The water was warm and clear and it made for an interesting little adventure. The lighthouse itself is a beauty. It is just a very cool building. You can't enter without an appointment, but you can walk around the entire place. There are picnic tables in the area on the river and although we didn't bring anything, there were people who did. It was a relaxing and enjoyable time watching the many boats in such an historic setting. Next trip definitely bringing food! I live about an hour away and had no idea this was even here.....we have the best things often close by. If you're in the area, don't miss this really great little side trip or make it a day with friends or family at the...

Read moreWe stopped here in our way back to PA from NY on a Sunday in late September because we found it on Google maps and thought it would be cool to see. We just walked the trail and did not stay overnight in the lighthouse - didn’t even know that was an option until we saw the sign out front. The parking area was easy to find - it is a flat lot with a few spaces - it may get busier on certain days but there weren’t many cars here when we arrived. Check my photos for pictures of the trail - it was about a half a mile walk from parking to the lighthouse. There were a handful of other people in the trail. They might do tours of the house - I’d check the website - but they are closed on weekends. I’m assuming that’s because they rent rooms out. From the sign I saw I think there are two rooms and you have to reserve both but I could be wrong. I’m sure it would be an interesting place to stay overnight but pack lightly because you will be carrying your bag half a mile on the trail. Pretty nature hike for those that just want to check it out from the exterior and enjoy a peaceful walk...
