Took a tour of the "caves" with a party of 5. First the good. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. I had little paddling experience so his instructions helped me as a first time paddler on Lake Michigan. He was knowledgeable of the history of the area.
The not so good. I booked the tour for the opportunity to go into caves. The "caves" are more like over hangs that are maybe 15-20ft deep. Was the experience of seeing the shore from the perspective of the lake cool yes but the cave aspect was a bit of a let down.
I would recommend this for people who regardless of paddling experience are visiting and want to paddle Lake Michigan. But if you are expecting some trek into a cave system this is not it. I guess I could have done a bit more research on my part but overall it was an enjoyable experience.
If you are an experienced paddler renting boats and self guiding might save you some money.
The tour lasted about 2hrs. Be careful on finding the location using the address with maps or Waze. Follow the instructions on your confirmation to get to the check in location on the beach. Enter Whitefish Dunes park. Get your day pass. $11 for out of state vehicles. Park and take the beach access stairs by the nature center. Or you can take the red trail and enter the beach at the beach access. Either way You'll see where the...
Read moreWe were there today before the bad storms rolled in. We decided to explore the park before our trip. The waves were large and we expressed our concern about the quality the trip would be then and told it would ba issue if they don't cancel. Our guide did her best, but there were 4ft swells and 14ish mph winds. Today we felt like a dollar sign not a customer they cared about. 25 percent of the guests were sea sick due to the waves. The 2hr trip was cut short by a group decision to a hour because we were miserable. I really was disappointed today. I understand that you cannot control the weather but you can control your decisions when not addressing the weather issue. How much is our money really worth to you? Look at my profile, I have never left a negative review this detailed. Please rethink how you handle these situations. We would have like to have been offered a refund before we launched due to the poor conditions or hell, even after we all agreed to cut the trip in half due to conditions. Instead, nothing has been offered as of yet. Even if you do nothing for us, please reconsider your actions next time the weather is as bad as it was today. Give...
