I went here in late summer, I grew up near here, and it used to be a somewhat abandoned airport. I learned to drive onbthe huge runway of this abandoned airport. Later it was a high-speed driving school for police. This is a much needed sanctuary. This was once a very rural area with a lot of dairy and horse farming, and now the density of humans is much much higher. It is very beautiful, it seems that there are people who are very serious about keeping it as a sanctuary, who visit just to check up. I was only there for about an hour because I was with somebody who had mobility issues, so I took a quick walk while they explored the platforms.

I happened through the area on a day trip and stopped in to see if this could be somewhere to come back to when I was better prepared for birdwatching (nothing like forgetting the binoculars and a better camera lens). What a great place. Wide open grassland, very nice observation platform. There were other trails, good parking and a small unisex bathroom. There was a meeting of some of the regular patrons that was going to start and they were very friendly and helpful. This place is a gem, I'll definitely be back

Magical place and wildlife to observe specifically in the winter. Predatory owls on the hunt every dusk/sunset. An amazing experience. FREE but donations recommended. Great parking and handicap/wheelchair accessible with elevated viewing platforms that have just ramps for access so wheelchairs walking sticks and walkers are encouraged and welcomed. Great place for handicapped folks to experience some beautiful wildlife. I love this place and I love that it's so accessable for the handicapped. Well worth the time and effort to bring your loved ones. Almost Guaranteed to see the owls hunting at every sunset. Bring some cheap binocs or a camera with a decent zoom otherwise you may get lucky if your sit and be still so an owl will grace you with it's presence and a close up fly by. Hope to see...

My first visit here was in December and I was able to go on a bird walk with a lovely and knowledgeable group of fellow birders! I subsequently came back once in January and once in February to (try and see) the SEOs. This area is well maintained and despite there being a lot of photographers, everyone was gernally very kind and even willing to share some camera tips and tricks! I can't wait to go back again to see the meadow larks!

Of note, I haven't been here on a weekend during SEO season, but I've heard that parking can be...
