Long Pond State Forest — Attraction in Town of Smithville

It's one of my personal favorite state land ponds to fish on. However, people are ruining it. I was just up there over the weekend and found a bunch of garbage in and around the water and handicap dock. I've a handicap family member, so this spot is perfect. I wish there was a garbage receptacle so I could throw away the trash left by others. It would be great if the DEC actually checked for valid licenses as well when they showed up. a nice quiet place to kayak, the first time visiting i went to a weird campground area, muddy & littered. second time i found anothe launch site, sooo much better. saw maybe 1 or 2 others each time i went. nice place to just be in nature. lily pads were gorgeous when blooming & there was a cute path to paddle between them out into the pond. overall a great place to...

Great place to camp ,some people are dickweeds and trash the camping areas, or move in to your campsite while you are gone to Seebers for a beer 🍺, had to call the Ranger to get them to move.Still have enjoyed camping there...
