We went there today as my friend suggested but the place is worst to go with kids especially in a pandemic situation. We reached the place at 9:15 and the BBQ places around the beach were already smoking full. The lifeguards are on duty from 10 AM hence you are not allowed to play in the water until then. By 9:45 the place almost got full I'm saying it all happened on a Wednesday. The quality of the people in there is so low that they don't listen to the lifeguards on purpose and we have seen a group of little boys arguing with a lifeguard for not letting them play in the water. There's no social distancing especially when in the water, people come too close to you which isn't good even in a non pandemic time. The water is stagnant so we felt it's too nasty to let my kids play in there among such a big crowd. We left the place by around 11. There are places to do BBQ so we went into the woods and began setting up, then saw a cops coming towards us with a gun. We were shocked to see a big black bear right behind us but thankfully it did no harm. Except for the adventurous closest bear encounter and a good family time in the woods I'd say we liked nothing about this place. It's a beautiful scenic spot but so cheap and nasty....
Read moreIt was great! There are many picnic tables with BBQ grills. You can even bring your own grills to the grass area nearest to the beach. It's open from 8 am-8 pm. The beach closes at 6 pm. Lots of parking. I thought that it would be far from the Bronx, NYC but it's about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. It's beautiful up here and there are even Camping sites on the way to the Lake. We're planning to go camping up here. Just beware that We were told by the park Rangers that the reason why they ask for the Visitors to leave before 8 pm is because of the bears, buzzards, etc. that come out to see what food has been left behind by the BBQ era grilling during the day time. They come out when it starts to get dark. We ended up going through the NJ side to then have to cross the Bridge to NYC but We arrived safely back to the Bronx. It was a relaxing day after all of the beach hopping that We encountered on the way to Croton Point Beach (which was closed). Lake Welch was our third choice and last place to hang...
Read moreIt was great. I brought my own grill so I didn't sit by the grills and the tables. We sat right by the bathrooms and parked in that parking lot. It was not packed and we were able to spread out (covid) i didn't go the sand and the water but others I was with said the water is clear.
Bathrooms were OK. Barely soap and some sinks were not functioning. Wasn't disgustingly dirty but the small garbage in each stall were overflowing and some nasty chick put her nasty unmentionables in plain view with a bit of splatter on the floor. However, when I was leaving the bathroom the attendants were coming in to clean.
Employees ride around patrolling and they come periodically to take out the trash. Mostly 🐝 bother. Overall great place. We had fun. Beer is not allowed. We played music as did others. Everyone had their own music going. Its a park to grill and chill. If you don't like that, than don't go!
FYI the place opens at 8am. My party got there by 9:30 and all the grills were full. $10 parking fee...
