Visited Mt. Defiance (Mt. D) after stopping in at Ft. Ticonderoga. Admission was $24 ($22 for Seniors and $12 for children). YOU WILL RECEIVE A TOKEN (INCLUDED WITH TICKET PURCHASE TO TOUR FT. TICONDEROGA), GOOD FOR YOUR VEHICLE TO PASS THROUGH THE GATE AT MT. D. (3 mile drive). Visited Mt. D on our own but listened in on a historical (guided) tour that was going on when we were walking around the area. If you're a history buff, you can let your imagination run wild to the days of early America. It's easy to see how it was not in need of fortification, back in the day. We dealt with cloudy, overcast skies and a hazy view but I'm sure that on a clear day, the view is awesome (can see the fort and the town of Ticonderoga, below). No problem driving up. It's a pretty good incline to hike to the top. Definitely not for the weak and weary. 😉...
Read moreEntrance to Mount Defiance poorly marked. You have to pay a fee which is a ticket machine which does not tell you cost . Roads are steep going uphill also poorly marked. Needs signage. Mount Defiance is a beautiful place with a great history and terrific views of Lake George,Lake Champlain , and Fort Ticonderoga .The walk uphill is very steep and should have a warning to be careful when walking. Read moreAfter touring the fort, it is well worth the drive into town to visit Mount Defiance. Amazing, panoramic view of the lake, the fort and the surrounding fields and forests. All with the Green Mountains in the distance. One of the best views I've ever seen. We had a hot, sunny day with no rain and clear skies, but I'm sure it's impressive in any conditions.
