Visited Mt. Defiance (Mt. D) after stopping in at Ft. Ticonderoga. Admission was $24 ($22 for Seniors and $12 for children). YOU WILL RECEIVE A TOKEN (INCLUDED WITH TICKET PURCHASE TO TOUR FT. TICONDEROGA), GOOD FOR YOUR VEHICLE TO PASS THROUGH THE GATE AT MT. D. (3 mile drive). Visited Mt. D on our own but listened in on a historical (guided) tour that was going on when we were walking around the area. If you're a history buff, you can let your imagination run wild to the days of early America. It's easy to see how it was not in need of fortification, back in the day. We dealt with cloudy, overcast skies and a hazy view but I'm sure that on a clear day, the view is awesome (can see the fort and the town of Ticonderoga, below). No problem driving up. It's a pretty good incline to hike to the top. Definitely not for the weak and weary. 😉 Enjoy your visit!

For those interested in Revolutionary War History, this is an important site near Fort Ticonderoga and access is included in the fee to enter Fort Ticonderoga. However, you will need to drive to this as it is up a steep hill in another location in the general area. The view are a big help in understanding the values of holding this location during the revolutionary war and there is usually a docent at the facility to answer question about this site. Be prepared to walk after parking up a steep hill as parking in 30 or 40 yards from the summit.

Mount Defiance was a highlight of our visit to the Ticonderoga area. The climb to the top was short but steep — and 100% worth it. Once you reach the summit, the views are breathtaking. You get an incredible panoramic look at Lake Champlain, the surrounding mountains, and Fort Ticonderoga below. There’s a small pavilion at the top, perfect for resting and taking in the scenery. Whether you hike or drive up, the payoff is amazing. A must-do if you’re in the area and want both beauty and a touch of history!

Entrance to Mount Defiance poorly marked. You have to pay a fee which is a ticket machine which does not tell you cost . Roads are steep going uphill also poorly marked. Needs signage. Mount Defiance is a beautiful place with a great history and terrific views of Lake George,Lake Champlain , and Fort Ticonderoga .The walk uphill is very steep and should have a warning to be careful when walking. There are no railings there. There is a covered observation room and two cannons. No personnel present to ask questions or get help if you need it . Be aware . Improvements...

After touring the fort, it is well worth the drive into town to visit Mount Defiance. Amazing, panoramic view of the lake, the fort and the surrounding fields and forests. All with the Green Mountains in the distance. One of the best views I've ever seen. We had a hot, sunny day with no rain and clear skies, but I'm sure it's impressive in any conditions. (If you visit the fort first, you get a token with your admission to use to access the gate into Mount Defiance. However, the gate/kiosk takes other forms of payment, so you don't have to...
