Short version: This review's more like 3 and a half stars, and it'd probably be 4 if my sandwich had any other kind of cheese on it. Cheesecake is like 5 stars, though. Seriously, if you don't save room for their cheesecake you're missing out.
Quaint little place, very diner-like, full of older locals. Sweet and accomading staff, and the food came quick. They take check and cash only and I didn't see an atm in there. Menu had food stains/crumbs under the laminate, not a terribly good first impression there.
Pros: Homemade cheesecake is out of this world, seriously. One of the best I've ever had. It's less "sticky" than a lot of other cheesecake, melts in your mouth, and the cranberry walnut is just tart & savory enough without overpowering the sweetness. I dont eat meatballs but they were apparently very good. They offer sweet potato fries as a side which, for me, is a big plus. Their tartar sauce seemed to be homemade to a degree, as it had bigger relish chunks than I was used to. Was tasty. Could be a con for some, ymmv.
Cons: Greasiness can be overwhelming on the appetizers. My biggest complaint was my haddock sandwich having a variety of cheese that didn't mesh with the fish at all. I think it was American? Ironic bc they're named after the nearby fort used by us in the revolution. But it didn't work for me at all. Definitely wished it had a milder cheese. The rest of the sandwich was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNothing good going on here. Service was terrible, for the most part we were ignored. Sat ourselves, had to stop the waitress to place our order, asked for a beverage refill (never got it), had to stop her to get the check. Left cash on the table and we were gone. Next, the food. We both ordered the onion soup. Watered down, canned soup with BJs croutons tossed about, a smidge of rubbery cheese on top. I ordered the Ethan Allen and it was horrific! Toaster oven sandwich with way too much WARMED mayo on it. Honestly, a 12 yr old could do better. Overall, it was gross. As far as the atmosphere goes, this was most concerning. We sat by the window to avail ourselves of the view, but most of it was obliterated by the overgrown trees & shrubs. There are 2 tables that allow for a view and neither were available. The windows are framed with OLD silk flowers that have small bugs crawling through them. I dropped my keys on the floor, upon retrieving noticed the baseboards. Old food from days gone by stained and stuck to them. Awful, truly awful! Made the mistake of using the ladies room before we left. Imagine the worst gas station bathroom you've ever walked into and you got this place. Must say, the only reason we stayed is because we had been driving for hours and were exhausted. Avoid this place, not worth the level of disgust you will have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCash only establishment no ATM on-site I genuinely like the place. However, on Mother's Day, they seemed understaffed. Waited a long time to get our soup that came with our meal (got french onion) the cheese on top was burnt. My meal was swimming in sauce (ordered Chicken Marsala) The waitress almost dumped it in my lap there was so much sauce. She was young and busy so I let that go. However there were a few ants, yes ants that were present on our table and one actually got on my daughter's plate. My mom's scallops (she ordered the Lemon flavored scallops) heavily breaded with little to no Lemon flavor. I dislike giving these kinds of reviews. However, it gives the establishment a chance to improve. Even though this was not a wonderful experience as I usually get. I will be back because the atmosphere is wonderful and it is a family oriented place. And I am a strong supporter of locally owned small businesses. It's just unfortunate that they didn't shine as bright as they could on...
