fantastic hike! I recommend a hiking pole, good shoes, and lots of water. hiked up the east side. It was 70 degrees and sunny. The last fourth was not covered with tree canopy. it was very warm but the view was spectacular of the river valley. There is a nice shelter at the top to take a break. Took the west trail back down. The stairs were narrow and steep (aka scary) at times but very unique. The valley at the bottom seemed like a whole other ecosystem with spring creeks and waterfalls. Read moreA must hike while in the park, but it's not an easy hike. The views at the top are well worth the hike. We left the West trailhead and hiked through to the East trailhead by the park headquarters. It's a pretty good climb up with stairs and inclines on both trails. The State Park Campground Map with trail map on the back is a little deceiving. These are not easy trails unless you are in excellent shape. I just want to help out fellow hikers. The map says 1/2 mile on the West trail, but it's 1/2 mile up stairs...
